This book may be my favorite book of 2024.
Have you ever read a book that felt like curling up in a warm blanket with a steaming mug on a rainy day, surrounded by friends and family? I have and this is one of them.
While I loved a lot about this book, I think the two best parts for me were Esther, the Ellerie matriarch, and the setting being so beautiful it became its own character.
Be kind to people. Always help. And if you’re afraid to accept help from those you love, do it scared. That’s okay too.

Heartwarming at times, cheesy at times, but overall a bit undercooked (pun intended). In a town of a population of under 1000 people are dropping like flies and no one suspects the small group of judgmental but outwardly kindly old ladies who feed them all. This isn't quite the plot of this story, but maybe it should've been. It would've been more interesting and somehow more cozy as well.
The heaviness of some of the subjects didn't quite have the punch it needed and the main story line wasn't as light as needed. The result is week old soggy casserole.
