A clear contender for one of my favorite books for 2023. This book was everything I was looking for in a summer romance read. Mutual pining, childhood friends to lovers, just the right amount of tension, and amazing character transformation. Loved this book and was genuinely sad to hit the last page as I wasn't ready to part with these characters.

I absolutely love Annabel Monaghan’s prose. Her voice is so calm and soothing and she has a way of captivating the reader to see her point of view. That said, while I enjoyed the writing itself, I did not enjoy the story.
Our two main characters are childhood friends turned lovers turned into nothing. As many second chance romances goes, the story is spun in sections dedicated to the present and the past. It’s a nice juxtaposition for Sam’s character as a child and free spirited, sweet teenager to who she is now – a strict HR personnel, on the verge of losing her job while marrying a nice, safe man who checks all the boxes. In this story, we learn about her absolutely passionate and deep love she shared with Wyatt, the boy next door who eventually breaks her heart and the aftermath of a secret which causes the childhood lovers to break.
