Kitty goes mystery hunting searching for a site where Wyatt Earp was rumored to have done some damage. She finds a clue that will lead her to new discoveries and of course, danger. She has this uncanny ability to attract every supernaturally dangerous situation around. Her pack of three, Cormac herself and Ben go on a hunt that leads them to San Francisco. What they find there will trst their belief systems and every skill they possess and some they don't.
Kitty and her pack rock this edition to the series. Adventure Plus ! Loved it.

The 9th book in the Kitty the Werewolf series, this could be alternately titled Kitty Goes to San Francisco. Had I been one to read cover blurb I would have saved it for my flight there in September. It was nice to have a werewolf guide to the city for part of it, with a lot of the action taking part under the city's Chinatown.

The story seemed to be over before it started and didn't have a lot of content. I did like the addition of Chinese myths including the nine tailed fox and Kitty's search into historical supernaturals but didn't think there was a lot of ongoing plot or character development from the previous book. It's sad to see the chemistry has gone between Kitty and Cormac and I'm really not sure about his new personality.

Overall an easy read for anyone already hooked on the series but I wouldn't recommend it as a standalone novel.

Kitty's Big Trouble in China Town would have been a better title. Not about werewolves this time around. More about how to stop Roman again. But even more about Chinese culture and the gods they worshiped. It's almost time for Kitty to speak up for the rest of the werewolves. Hopefully in the next installment.

One of the tropes of urban fantasy seems to be the Dan Brown-esque pacing -- we see it with Dresden, Swift, Castor... Ok, so it mostly affects male protagonists.

My problem with this Kitty tale was that it fell in that trap. Very little build up to a whole lot of frantic action that occurred during a single, seemingly endless 36-hour period in story time.

Otherwise, I liked the new elements introduced, though I'm still not thrilled with the direction she chose to keep Cormac relevant without violating his parole. Not a bad story, but not the best in the series.

I'll just start this off by saying I have been a fan of Carrie
Vaughn's Kitty books since the first one. The books are fast, funny,
full of action and imaginative. And this one fits right in.

In this book, Kitty is attempting to find out if any famous historical
generals were werewolves (specifically Gen. Sherman of Civil War
fame). During her investigation, she gets a call for help from the
vampire Anastasia. Kitty, her husband Ben, and the split human/spirit
Cormac/Amelia head to San Francisco and deep trouble. Along the way,
they meet enigmatic oriental gods, other werewolves bent on their
destruction, and the villain vampire Roman. Kitty learns some hard
truths about power, allies, and herself. She's most definitely not a
follower, but can she bring herself to be a leader? With her pack (all
three of them), she heads into major trouble, but once again, manages
to claw her way out.

While I loved the story, there were a few places where I had to stop
and say "huh?" There were enough of these spots that I'd have to put
this not at the top of my list of favorites, but that being said, it
was still a fun read. I am definitely a fan and if I have to pause at
a couple of spots, I'll accept that because the rest of the story is
worth it. I also love the fact that you don't have to have read all
the books in order to know what's going on. My favorite kind of
series.

If you're a fan of light, witty, action/adventure fantasy, definitely
pick this one up. In fact, pick them all up. You won't be sorry.

Kitty receives a call from Anastasia in San Francisco to say that Roman has been tracking her and a powerful object in the city, and needs help. Kitty, Ben and Cormac go to the city and are instantly attacked as they look for Roman. It is now a race to find a pearl that can replicate, and this power could be used to swiftly grow his army. Kitty gathers allies around her as the search begins but there is powerful magic working against her which may doom them to be stuck beneath the streets forever.

I was pleased to read the entire Kitty series last year which I very much enjoyed though it has taken me ages to get these reviews written and posted! I'll be working on the rest of my Kitty reviews over the next week or so.

Being told the story that General Sherman was actually a werewolf has intrigued Kitty into wondering which dead celebrities may have been vampires or werewolves. With Rick hinting that he knew Wyatt Earp, Kitty goes looking for evidence that he may have been a vampire hunter in his time. Finding an old, starving vampire with Roman's mark is an unpleasant surprise, especially when Anastasia calls to ask for her help. As usual, Kitty attracts trouble as soon as she arrives in the city, with her stealth mission to find Roman goes south when his werewolves attack Kitty and Ben. They find an ally in the form of Grace, whose family have guarded the location of the pearl in tunnels under the city but when they arrive it is gone. Does Roman have it or are he and his people lost in the tunnels too?

I noticed that a few reviewers weren't keen on this Kitty story but I enjoyed the change of focus from the city on to a quest in the dark tunnels! Kitty is determined to stop the pearl falling into Roman's hands at all costs and is working with interesting new people. Grace and her family before her were trusted in keeping the pearl safe and she is horrified to find it gone from a secure hiding place. The local vampires quickly spot the werewolf intruders and want to speak to Kitty about her activities and I enjoyed their interactions. Sun was also a fun character when he was introduced but I can't say much about him without adding a few plot spoilers so I'll let the readers find that out for themselves!

It was good to get the back story on Anastasia's life as a human before she was turned and explore her connection to Roman. We also learn a bit more about Rick and although the Wyatt Earp story annoyed some readers, I found it fun to see Kitty out looking for evidence of celebrity vampire hunters! It was a good way to start the story and a light side plot before the darkness closes in literally! When the setting changes to a new city, a lot of it takes places in the secret tunnels below it. Now I'm a big fan of settings that are isolated, dark and deadly, with enemies lurking round every corner so I very much liked what the author did here. OK yes it is maybe a bit repetitive as it goes on but it was enjoyable for me. I also liked seeing a bit of Chinese mythology coming into the story, something I know nothing about. I liked that there was something new to enjoy.

This book edges closer to the war against Roman and his forces beginning for real. A few reviewers have said that there isn't really much to the book and while I can see where they are coming from, I liked that this book was about tension rather than lots of action, and exploring the past of some of the characters. It also goes into more detail about the complex relationship between Amelia and Cormac. I certainly thought it was a solid book in the series.

another Kitty the Werewolf (snicker) book -- She's matured so much from the earlier books that sometimes she'll do something her werewolf instincts dictate that her human brain would veto if it were truly in charge

getting lost in the Chinatown undercity was cool!
