I found the characterisation to be very repetitive and lack range. The fantastical concepts were very thin as well.

Everything about this story—from the dirty, disgusting body horror, the surprisingly sweet romance, the twisted religious imagery—absolutely devoured.

Absolutely amazing book. I thought it was a bit weird that the main character who lived in a religious cult talked and thought like they were on queer twitter right off the bat. Even if Benji read it in forbidden texts, he still wouldn’t be 100% proficient in language. Maybe should’ve had some more discovery in the beginning. BUT past that this was a fantastic novel. I absolutely ate it up and was done with it in two days lol. As a trans guy myself I loved Benji’s thoughts with his dysphoria and how he navigated himself, and how others saw him, in this f*cked up world. Gore was 10/10.

Gotta love religious references and a good dream sequence or two.

Read in res. I liked the start of the book but after like 150 pages it started to drag. Definitely fell asleep the first time I tried to read the final act.
