I will say this started off slow for me. But once I continued I was hooked, it gained the pace and the momentum for me. Listen you have a fiery smartass, cunning woman Sawyer who will do anything for her brother. And the men, don't get me going on them. I'll take Cain and Oliver in a heartbeat and not look back. Book 2 is in the making and I can't wait to get my hands on it.

Revenge, plotting, spice, badass woman what more could you ask for?

Okay RH. I don't like how the 2 sets of guys are pitted against eachother and there is so much jealousy. She is almost a strong FMC but doesn't pull it off. This is obviously a grab for more after the success of the Pacific Prep series. I could have used a lot more interaction and backstory from the PP people.

Great foundation setting - This book is definitely slower paced than I anticipated, but i’m confident it will pay off later in the series. Sawyer is a strong and bad ass FMC, Oliver clearly has the emotional maturity to handle her. Kane definitely needs to work on growing up, and I have no idea how Dante plays into this all yet. Overall, great job building the world of Black Creek and setting the stage for an epic gang war series.

5 star read that releases April 1st!!!

The gang wars that fill the streets of Black Creek are the thing of nightmares, but for those who grew up there it’s a way of life. Whether you are pledged to a gang or just roam their territories you have to know the rules to stay alive, and Sawyer has made it her mission to play the rules to her advantage. When Sawyer manages to draw several gang leaders’ attention, she knows it’s going to take all of her street smarts to survive and to keep the little freedom she has earned. Especially when these gang leaders seem to be playing a different game.

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for a review.

Slow to start, gangs and character builds pretty lengthy. Overall interesting story, continuing on to book 2. Lots of moving pieces.

Holy crap! Rachel killed it with Book one! Red is such a bad ass chick! And Oliver ugh I just love him so much! Cain too. This is totally a 10/10 for me. I could not put it down once I started! I had to devour it! Rachel sure knows how to suck you into a story and not let you go! Im in a total book hangover! This one is definitely a 5-star read. It will hold your attention throughout the whole book! i can not wait to see what the rest of the series holds!
slow-paced

Oh my, I'm so excited to discover a brand new author with a seriously amazing talent and bonus points that there is also a backlist of books I can get stuck into when this series is over. I devoured this, it's the first book in a four-part series and has all of my favourite tropes. It's a gang reverse harem and the world-building done here was second to none. I was very impressed with how immersive this all was and the intention to detail was excellent. I especially liked that the romance and spice didn't overshadow the plot. We do have that spice but the story was also very much foremost and central and it is all still unfolding and this is very much a simmer rather than a boil. I was also so pleased that there wasn't any insta-love either, which is a definite pet hate of mine.

This story takes place in Black Creek. It's a lawless place ruled by gangs and our heroine Sydney who goes by the name of Red is a dancer who also happens to have a side hustle of murder for hire. She's the sole carer for her teenage brother and she's clawed them both out of the gutter doing whatever she must so she can provide a safe home for him.

Sydney is badass and very capable of taking care of herself. She only has herself to rely on and has built her walls high. Getting involved with any of the local gangs is an instant no-no for her so when she comes to the attention of the Reapers Rejects she wants none of it. But Cain the leader of the up-and-coming new power in Black Creek won't take no for an answer and he's a total jerk to boot treating Sydney like the dirt on his shoe convinced she's lying and he's relentless.

Cain is out for revenge and along with his second In command Oliver he's determined to take down the Antonellis, mafia who targeted and took his sister many years prior he's just been biding his time playing the long game ever since determined to take them down and avenge his sister.

So I think I can see how this is gonna go. I'm thinking Cain and Oliver for sure. Then definitely Dante who is an Antonelli and also Lor who is attached to Dante so some M/M to come which I'm buzzed about. I'm also trying to work out how Enzo fits into this all and I have some vague suspicions over his true identity. So we'll see if my deductions hold any weight. I'm still mulling over it all but safe to say this story is still in its infancy so I'm excited to see how this all will unfold and play out.

I highly recommend picking this one up especially if you like gang romances that are dark gritty and have a huge dose of realism. it's also intricately constructed with some fabulous world immersion. Highly impressed and I'm excited to pick up book two next.
