Started slower but really built to something captivating. Can't wait to read the sequel.

Zombies take over the world

I’m sure some students may like-story involves zombies, zombies with changing viruses & destruction of world. I thought I would like but dragged out for me :(

Didn't like it as much as I thought I would, until the very end. But I love Ray Porter, so....

Soo glad for a new addition to the Rot & Ruin series! I really enjoyed seeing Benny and his gang and meeting Gutsy.

Another phenomenal read by Jonathan Maberry. I love the edition of new characters - adds new depth and dimension to this incredible fictional post-apocalyptic world Maberry has created. A must read for fans of the Rot & Ruin series.

*Deep breath*
This book was awesome! I have read maybe one of the Rot and Ruin books and one of the Joe Ledger series.
When I picked this up, I didn't realize it was somewhat of a continuation.
Memorable characters, action, a strong teenage Latina (who is also bi) protagonist, and a plot that somehow ties in with current events. I couldn't put it down.
When Gutsy's mom mentions "Rat Catchers" in a sickness induced haze (from tuberculosis) before she dies... Gutsy thinks it's just that. Delirious talk. But then her mom comes back to their house after Gutsy buries her. Twice. As the story enfolds, Gutsy leans that the people that live in the place she has considered home and, even the place she considers home may not be what they always seem.
Add characters from the other two series and you have a fast paced read. I can't wait for the next one.
4.5 stars

I was very cautious about this second series in the Rot & Ruin-verse. The first quartet of books ended pretty well and didn’t necessarily leave a TON of questions that I needed answered. I felt content with the ending, so I wasn’t really anticipating a sequel series. However, with that being said, I really enjoyed this follow-up! I thought Maberry did excellently at creating and developing a brand new storyline for Benny and his crew. Like I said, I was very happy that they got a new adventure because by the end of the OG series, I was a bit weary of them and their adventures. Their quest for a cure, though, felt fresh and new! It really helped to revive my love for the series.

3.5/5 Hadn’t revisited the world of Rot & Ruin in a while. Same excellent world building and evolution of the zombie opposition, and cool structure that brings the squads together. I know this is more or less YA, but the stakes have been higher in this world, with more casualties before…seemed a smidge bloodless this time…I know, that sounds horrible.
