Although I was a passionate Agatha. Christie fan when I was young—adored Hercules Poirot and Miss Marple—and I still love a good mystery, I knew nothing of Christie’s unsolved, real-life disappearance for 11 days back in the 1920s. Marie Benedict takes a crack at what may have occurred in The Mystery of Mrs. Christie--here's my one sentence review:

A fact-based, dual narrative speculation on Agatha Christie’s vanishing has a satisfying twist, offering one possible explanation and telling the story of a marriage’s demise along the way.

2.5 rounded up to 3 for GR - this wasn’t really up my alley. I was hoping for more mystery and the Agatha Christie style charm with twists and turns, but this was more of a feminist historic imagining of Christie’s life that was heavy on details of her life and less focused on unveiling a captivating mystery.

Loved this one!!! It’s a fictional imagining of what went down when Agatha Christie really disappeared for 11 days in the 1920s! Super creative and felt like it really could have happened. I learned so much about Agatha Christie! I only docked one star because I had to google about her life for a solid 30 minutes afterwards. Love a good google deep dive after a book, but I felt like it really could have used a note about what really happened or a little bit more of an ending after the disappearance ended.

4.5 Stars from me. If you are looking to learn more about Agatha Christie's early life and possible motives in her eleven day disappearance, this book is for you. It is fictional, but based on fact.

3 1/2 stars

This was a fun one! And Benedict's "twist," in keeping with the style of Christie's own writing, got me. I want to say more but can't without spoilers. I'll keep it safe and say that at one point I almost put down the book because of growing frustration with a character's blindness and unfounded optimism about their situation...and I'm SO glad I didn't!

This was my first Marie Benedict read but it won't be my last.

She does a great job making you dislike Colonel Christie.

Really liked it.

Maybe it's me, but I feel like the last few fiction books I have read have had unsatisfying and abrupt endings.
