An interesting short story. I missed reading Oscar Wilde's writing. This one in particular very much feels like a fable.

At age 15 I became an Oscar Wilde fan with help from thr public library (and before long, I had a copy of The Complete Works of Oscar Wilde). First I read all his most famous plays. Next I read The Picture of Dorian Grey before I read all his shoes stories, The Ballad of Reading Gaol, De Profundis, etc. Eventually I read his less famous plays--probably in my 20s.

Wow this was just 8 pages but so far it became my favorite story by Wilde. It was truly heartbreaking and so brilliant. The Happy Prince and his new friend, a swallow helping some people but it leads to their own demise.
Serious issues, sadness, tragedy and also love presented in this beautiful little story.
Highly recommend reading it!

I love the comic fairy-tales of this collection. They contain a lot of the tropes that are familiar from traditional fairy tales, but have the twist of Wilde's originality that make them unlike anything else.
