Sylvain’s writing style is poetic. You can always get a feel for a person by how they write, and whenever I read a book written by Sylvain, I always feel like I am with intelligent company. The writing is always believable, beautiful, and captivating. That was true for the Gabriel’s Inferno series and it remains true to this day.
“‘Do you think that you can feel darkness?'”
The Prince is the beginning back story for the Florentine series. It brings both this new series and meshes it in with the Inferno series. We mostly see into The Prince’s thoughts in this novella, and I am all too curious to see where this new series leads us. It sets up the ground-work into how The Prince and the Emerson’s are intertwined, and that we’ll be seeing a lot more of our favorite couple as this new series unfolds. I was pulled into this story immediately, and am very anxious for more–thankfully we don’t have to wait that long for the first installment!
“‘Here is an angel, fallen to earth,’ he whispered, his blue eyes alight with erotic fire.”
As always, Sylvain grabs onto us and takes us into his stories with a fervor that is very rare. We always see both the good and the bad of each of his characters, along with mystery and intrigue. I can tell this series will take us on an action-filled but incredible journey deep into the paranormal world of Italy. Yes, I said paranormal. And it’s going to be great.

I found this story extremely intriguing and captivating! Sylvain Reynard has such a specific writing style, so eloquent, it almost has an old fashioned feel to it but it's modern and fresh. I don't know how to explain it but I really, really like it!
Great introduction! It had this dark and mysterious feel to it and there's a great paranormal element at play. The Prince is fascinating and complex. I loved all the little details learned about him. There is definitely an interesting dynamic in the city where the Prince lives with those of his kind and I liked it a lot. I was excited and anticipating what would happen next. There was a nice amount of conflict in this with some action thrown in, my kind of story! I really liked how the story was laid out and got a good feel for the Prince’s world. All the characters that were introduced were interesting as well. I’m excited to see what will happen next.
I really liked how Gabriel and Julia (from the Gabriel’s Inferno series) were tied into the story as well. They are always so romantic and sensual together and you could definitely feel that in this. I found the Prince’s fascination with the Emerson's extremely intriguing, he just couldn't seem to pull his thoughts away from them.
Romantic and mysterious, beautifully written. I am highly anticipating The Raven now!

Initial Thoughts: eh this really wasn’t all that interesting. I didn’t connect to any of the characters and I think the only reason I finished it was because it was a short story (only about 85 pages). I know it’s a prequel so I’m sure the first book has more substance and hopefully portrays the MCs better. I just like reading everything in order which is why I picked this one up first, but honestly I’m not sure if I want to try out this series now or not. We’ll see. I still might since the first book’s summary was still intriguing to me. Overall though, I feel like this prequel is totally skippable.

Same great writing in this new series and I love the supernatural aspect. Love the new character and can't wait to see where this story goes. Great intro.
This was a good transition novella from Gabriel's world to the Prince's world. Seeing them overlap was interesting because we never had any indication of the supernatural in Gabriel's trilogy. There was the quest for betterment of self, but not vampyres. I found the Prince's fascination with the Emmerson's intriguing, and hope to see his mind changed on his plans for the Professor in The Raven, or the Shadow.
So, now, I must read the Raven to find out more about the Prince :-)

I'm counting down the days for The Raven!!!
The Prince was a good bridge connecting the Emerson's with Reynard's new series The Raven!

Not great, but not terrible either. It was interesting enough that I'm definitely . . . maybe planning on reading The Raven when it comes out next week.
My biggest concerns are:
1. A surplus of unnecessary parenthetical statements (it was obnoxious and distracting--oh, the iiiiiironyyyyyy), and
2. The ridiculously unbelievable fight scene in which whom I'm assuming is to be the Object of Our Desire in the full-length novel bests two other vampires (<-----also an assumption) . . . by fighting them . . . simultaneously . . . with a sword in each hand, and then beheading them . . . also simultaneously.

SR is one of my favorite authors, after Gabriel's Trilogy I was so excited to grab this new book while waiting for The Raven. As always SR delivered an amazing prequel, I loved that I got glimpses of my favorite couple while trying to figure out about The Prince. It is a must read!!!
