I loved this book. It was definitely a bit different then the normal Jon Athan books I felt like.
I'd love to read a sequel to this book for sure. The ending had me questioning things. I want to know the continued story so bad!
I low key trusted the random tag along woman, but of course she let us down.
I've been making my way through trying to read all of Jon Athan's books and this one definitely goes towards the top.
I felt like it was a pretty fast paced book. There really wasn't any points where you're bored. Always something going on for sure!
The deputy and his partners scene was brutal. Ouch.
I definitely recommend this book. As always, read your TW's of course.

I feel guilty that I liked this book so much. Like what a foul concept for a story, but Jon executed it so well.
The tale “blends” an apocalyptic nightmare past and dystopian present with fiends craving the flesh of babies. It’s the newest drug and the hives of depraved people will stop at nothing to get their next hit. Readers follow a family as they struggle to survive.
I was honestly so tense and at the edge of my seat reading this sickening tale. Who could ever hurt children, let alone want to consume them in smoothie form.

What did I just read
I happened upon this genre seeking something new. Boy did I find it. This book really made me uncomfortable. While I did like the story I felt some parts were clunky or didn't make sense. Like why did the young do what she did at the police station? Why was the main character so annoyingly hesitant at the worst possible times? While I'd like a sequel, I'd enjoy spin offs as well, of some of the other characters. Overall, a book I wanted to stop reading but couldn't put down. It's like watching something you don't want to but can't take your eyes off of it.

This was my first extreme horror book. I was definitely entertained. I did enjoy the addiction storytelling and details that are very true to actual addiction. Obviously it’s supposed to be shocking and it is. One of the torture scenes seemed a bit too long and started feeling like trauma porn and left me wondering if the author was enjoying wiring all the details of a women being sexually tortured and mutilated.

I need a sequel !!! About lord of the fleash.
My first Jon Athan book and I was excited but also worried, I would find it cringy.
I have worked in the operating room, assisting in surgeries, so blood, guts, gore doesn't really phase me. I mostly just don't enjoy over the top gore that's unnecessary, like say Woom.
With that mentality, I had seen so many reviews about Jon's work. I was kind of skeptical, wondering how I'd enjoy it. Needless to say, I enjoyed it. The gore wasn't unnecessary, it was just right. The storytelling was there, the suspense was there. Overall, it was a decent read.
The only reason, it's not a 5 ⭐️ is because I know it won't stick with me. While it was shocking and fun 🫠, I just don't see me remembering it in a few months.
