The main character was a pick me, and the “flirting” was horrendous.

This book was ok... there were definitely things I loved and things I didn't love. The spy aspects of the novel were my favorite parts, but I didn't really like the romance and felt like it wasn't that necessary. I know it's advertised as romance, but I felt like the severity of the situation made the romance parts awkward and out of place for me.

"Maybe it's military related, maybe I'll never know, maybe she's born with it. maybe it's Maybellene."
Maybe this should have gone through another round of edits before being published. I'm DNF-ing at 47%. Between the pop culture references that'll be dated in about 5 years and the main character Dove being terrible at life I can't continue for my mental health.

the man gave me an ick like he tried so hard to be sexy and it wasn’t it was icky and cringey and borderline sexual harassment like why couldn’t he be normal ? also this book feature my most hateful pet peeve in books, and its when the female lead is sad or scared or anxious and here goes the male lead “i can make you forget” “i can take the pain go away” meaning they’re about to do something sexual…. EEWWW I HATE IT SO MUCH ITS SUCH EMOTIONAL WHIPLASH AND ITS NOT SEXY ITS DISGUSTING ITS ICKY IDK WHY AUTHORS DO THIS LIKE WHATEVER HAPPENED TO JUST KISSING THE FEMALE LEAD ON THE FOREHEAD AND CUDDLING ???? WHY YOU SEE MY EYES WET AND WANT TO MAKE MY PUSSY WET TOO ???? ITS NOT THE TIME ITS JUST RUINS THE WHOLE MOOD. Honestly I should’ve dnf this book from chapter 1 when on literally the first page the author included a cringey Taylor Swift reference.

Wasn't enough romance in this for me to be invested in the characters
