This fun and mysterious book was absolutely excellent. There were plenty of engaging characters, a phenomenally rambling house, beautiful stained-glass windows, and an original mystery linking everything together. There were definitely Lemony Snicket vibes but the author did a fantastic job of establishing Nagspeake as a new and fascinating place. Highly recommended!!
This book was just ok. It felt very long. I wasn't super into this book and didn't feel connected to the characters unfortunately. The concept of the book sounded interesting but I was a little bit disappointed to be honest.
Started reading this with my 11 year old. It wasn’t a good read aloud book in my opinion. We lost interest easily. We ended up getting the audio version. That didn’t help. It felt like we were just trying to get this darn book finished. And now we have. 11 year old rated it a 4.5 after taking 8+ months to finish. I would have rated it less but clearly I have irritation clouding my judgement. 13 year old picked it up before we did and finished in 2 days. So use this info as you will. Maybe it is a good book after all?
I actually really like the vibe of this but not in the mood for it and have many other books waiting for me right now!

I would have enjoyed reading this over listening to it. the characters were fun but a bit hard to keep track of in the audiobook.
With the mysterious whodunnit of The Westing Game and a little pinch of fantasy thrown in for good measure, this book was a real treat. I particularly loved the family dynamics and the little Easter eggs sprinkled throughout to keep you on your toes. A fun and unusual book- I can’t wait to read the sequel!

I did not expect to like this book as much as I did! I've never been much of a cozy fantasy fan or books or into stories that run mostly on vibes (the first 75% of this book), but this story drew me right in. I loved the audio and can't wait to read more of the series!
