A series of short stories that show Dream where he should be, controlling the dream realm and using it to offer mortals their deepest desires or punish them with their darkest nightmares. From a writer who purchases and then abuses a muse, to what cats might dream of and how we might use dreams to shape our reality, to a take on A Midsummer Night's Dream, to a depressed mutant superhero who meets Death.

I found the cat story delightful and clever and liked this volume best so far. Onto vol 4...

The string of separate stories was interesting. They did not feel very fleshed out and I kept waiting for a greater underlying connection beyond the sandman/death, but it didn’t come. I enjoyed the art but I wish the stories had a bit more depth rather than the deep-but-not-that-deep dramatic sentences that punctuated the storytelling. I loved the previous two sandman books but I must say I was slightly disappointed by this one.

I liked this one a bit less than the first two volumes. It is mostly quite bleak and perhaps sunny July was not the best time to read it. I really enjoyed the art style in the final story, The Flowers of Romance!

This was a much shorter volume than I was expecting and I don’t think the stories each did much for the overall story arc, but it was an enjoyable read. The comic script included at the end was cool but I wasn’t particularly interested in reading it having just read the story of calliope. Maybe I’ll go back and read it one day.

Interesting enough but not as good as The Doll House. Maybe some of the stories make more sense with the next Volume.
