I enjoyed this book for the most part, except about halfway through I got super tired of Lina’s story. It felt repetitive and bored me (maybe the repetitiveness  was the point)? It would’ve been interesting to read some sort of analysis from the author. Read more like fiction than non-fiction.

This book isn’t what I thought it would be about. It is the stories of 3 women and their defunct sexual encounters. None of the 3 are in “healthy/normal” relationships. I found it to be a bit depressing to read some of the encounters and that these are the three stories the author chose to write about. I felt like there couldn’t been more stories about women in healthy relationships and their desires and needs and how they were fulfilled or not fulfilled.
There were some great points in each story about what is missing or lacking in society as whole in supporting women and their sexual desires. This book definitely would be great for a masters program in women studies. A class where it can be discussed and hashed out Why and how society views women’s decisions when it comes to sexuality.

this was brought to my attention after seeing that this was being adapted to film with shailene wooley.

ate this up in practically a day. revealing and intriguing. my interest ranking: maggie, sloane, lina. interesting prose from the author of describing things. explores female desire. read like fiction with how bewildering it was esp maggie. very taboo. the research the author dedicated to create is impressive.

surprised that the title and cover are so plain for such a heavily researched project, it doesn’t give any impression of what it’s actually about

Lina and Maggie’s stories were truly heartbreaking to me and I identified with them more than Sloane’s. Sloane’s story did have some aspects that I related to but otherwise it was an interesting account on what it is like to add a third person in your bedroom.

I have been Lina. Desperate for love. Begging for love. It made me really emotional because it reminded me so much of myself and the things I have done just to feel wanted and loved. But in the end she just wanted a partner and that is exactly how I feel. Her and Maggie are similar in the ways of waiting for the man and trying so desperately to hold on to him.

I do like the relationship Sloane and Richard have. Richard is dedicated to Sloane and she knows he won’t step out. I do find lately that relationships always have a third person whether everyone knows about it or not. It seems like polyamory is becoming the norm because us as humans find it difficult to stay with one person. It is definitely something I struggle with, trust in general.

I think all women can relate to this book and these women’s stories whether it be one or all of them.
