I sometimes struggle with Japanese manga about queer topics. Are they educational? Are they for people of that community? I can’t say where this manga lands. It leans more educational than not, but in a way, all manga that leans more educational also has elements that ring true with that community.
I love that a manga about an aromantic asexual exists, but I wish there was more beyond the main character discovering her identities. I do love how it ties in society’s expectations of men/women and relationships.
It was still really weird that they compared bisexuality and asexuality to liking BL. Weird comparison.

i have so many thoughts about this!! (i apologize in advance because this review probably won't make any sense haha). i honestly never expected to find ace / aro representation in manga, but i'm so happy i did! i borrowed this book from the library, but if i ever find a used copy at a bookstore i'll definitely consider buying it

ahhh where do i even start? we follow Chika's journey in figuring out who she is and exploring aspec identities / labels. she struggles with understanding what sexual or romantic attraction even are, which seems to be rather common in the aro / ace community. i love the emphasis on how the labels we choose to use are exactly that - chosen by us because we feel they describe our experiences best - and that labels can change. there are also several other queer characters who support Chika throughout the story! i really appreciate Chika having a supportive professor who helps her realize that there's nothing wrong with her. i could say a lot more but then this review would be too long so i'll end it here :)

Such a phenomenal exploration of the fluidity of gender and sexuality and brilliant asexual rep! absolutely loved this manga - it’s so lovely to see more and more queer ones

This felt like the Our Dreams at Dusk for ace and aro spec characters. I almost cried while I was reading this manga, it just has a great combination of whimsey and anger and education with a whole cast of queer characters with queer relationships to one another. So cozy.
