Read this book whilst on my honeymoon in Mexico! Finished it within a day. I was shocked when the book end as I didn’t think it had a clear ending. Then I realised this book was part of a series! Could not wait to start reading the next book and the next ...

Violet is such a strong female lead whom i instantly connected with. Her wit and determination really resonated with me.

One of my all time favourite series.

But what happened to the dog? 🐶

Review coming soon!!

Hahaha fuck this book, fat DNF at 50%.

Mix of The Hunger Games and Divergent. The first book starts out slow, but the pace picks up by the second book.

Interesting

I loved this as a series starter. Violet was someone I quickly liked and I really felt for her being trapped in a broken system that keeps you trapped. I felt like the Queen lied about the boys from the start but it is what it is and maybe we will know what happens to them in the next book. Lee isn't very likeable to me. Viggo is and I love the immediate chemistry between Violet and Viggo. I hope we meet him again. I want entirely shocked by the betrayl..maybe I wanted it to be so. But the deaths and Violet being thrown through a loop with a possible bad future was something I didn't see. Very curious about this damn egg too.

Mixed thoughts on this one. It wasn't terrible, but it's not one that I see myself recommending to anyone. Interesting premise, but with a lackluster execution. Just kind of middle of the road. I liked Violet, the protagonist, but I don't know if that's just be because I absolutely hates the heroine from the last YA post-apocalyptic novel I read. The twist at the end was pretty shocking, but not enough for me to be foaming at the mouth, itching to to get my hands on Book Two.

I think there was a lot of potential here. The problem with potential, though, is that it's been unfulfilled. The beginning chapters were very slow, and I had to trudge through them. It wasn't until Violet began spending more time with Viggo that I became truly intrigued. Unfortunately, that wasn't until the second half of the book. All the action happened in the last three chapters, which was also disappointing. Another bummer was that Violet only spent about 2 pages in the Green. Now, Forrest could be planning to incorporate that into the rest of the series (which I think is likely), but it would have added some substance to THIS story. Lee is exactly what I suspected him to be, so there wasn't much surprise or suspense where there should have been. All in all, it felt thin, but it was intriguing. Like I said, potential. Will I read the rest of the series? I'm not sure yet. Would I recommend this? It depends on the reading level of the person in question.
