I have read Jessie Burton’s The Miniaturist and The Muse and loved them but can’t say the same about this one. It just didn’t work for me. I felt the story was lacking and I really disliked the characters. A marmite book I feel. I received a free copy of this book, a favourable review was not required and all opinions expressed here are my own.

I like a dual timeline book. It took me a bit of time to get to grips with who was who in each timeline but once I did everything slotted into place.

The book covers some difficult life topics with sensitivity and honesty. I really enjoyed the relationships between characters and how each one was portrayed.

I felt for Elise, Connie and Rose. It seemed to be a tangled web and Rose was caught in it from a very young age.

You know when you meet someone new, that leaves a lasting impression, causing you to think about, and dream about that person constantly? That was this book for me. This one helped me get back into physical books after a series of audiobooks. The amount of thought I gave this book was excitingly distracting. I don’t know how many other ways I can preach my love for it. Love, love, loved it ❤️

This is the first book in years that I DNF. I didn't even make it a quarter of the way in. I really struggled with the writing style and just could not get into it. It caused a bit of a reading slump after as well.

The beginning just felt too drawn out, and so didn't really have anything to grab my attention.
