Power of the free press and fighting for the people with Middle Ages vibes.
3.5 rounded up. The pacing was a bit off for me, the villain would've been more effective if we had more than a single scene with him, and the last few pages turned a sweet ending into a saccharine one. But, overall, the story is inspiring, the world is full and multilayered, and the illustrations are extraordinary. Those colors! Just gorgeous.

Thank you NetGalley and HarperCollins for this e-ARC!
Ink Girls is a graphic novel with rich colors and animated characters that are each unique in their motivations and development. While the storyline happens quickly (from publishing a controversial work to getting arrested etc), and the revolution is quicker than might be possible in real life, the message of the story is strong and will likely inspire children and teens to continue using their voices (and writing!) to share the truth. It is definitely distinct from Nijkamp's other works, but fans will still find something that appeals to them.

I will read a diverse YA/middle school low fantasy any day of this week, particularly of this quality. Fun times and passing the GN onto friends.

Very cute and inspirational.
Dante is the best cat.
I understand the concept and the importance of showing girls they can stand up and speak the truth, be brave, and fight for their homes.
However, it is a little sad that until the end it's only women willing to speak out and fight against the man. It feels like it perpetuates the harmful gender binary we live with every day.
Regardless, the message of Ink Girls is still something that needs to be shown and inspired in everyone.
