RATING: 3.5 STARS
2017; Bethany House Publishers

I rated this novel a bit less than the first book just because this one was more of a bridging book. By bridging I mean, this novel was continuing the story but also setting up for the third book. You would have to read the first book before reading The Ladies of Ivy Cottage or it won't be as enjoyable. In book two, we see a lot more of Rachel and Mercy, which was great. I like their storylines and but also the joint friendships. They are not as close in book one, and are again seeing one another more and working out the issues they had. Klassen continues to do a good job with setting up the time and place. This is one of those series that really does take you to another place while you are reading. For an escapist like me, that is an A in my book (pun intended).

I really enjoyed this one! I enjoy this quaint, English village setting a lot. I am most interested in Mercy’s story and cannot wait to see what is next for her in book 3! I’m also really excited to continue Jane’s story. 💗

I liked this one much more than the first. I loved the characters, the romance, and the mystery. My main issue was that sometimes the author beat into your head the meaning instead of just insinuating and letting you mind wander. I wanted to wonder about some of the relationships but often times felt i was being told, especially in the beginning. Midway through the book that stops completely, if the first half of the book had been as great as the second half i would have given it four stars.

Still this is an excellent read for anyone who loves books from the regency era, with lots of romance and a little mystery :)

I loved returning to Ivy Hill. This book had a slower pace and didn't grab me as much. I'm happy for Rachel but definitely interested in a 3rd book to follow Jane and Mercy.

2'5 ⭐.
