This is the polar opposite of the type of book I normally read, but decided to give it a try. Surprisingly, I really enjoyed it and read it in one day. It’s like a Jane Austen novel with language that’s easier to read.
Marianne drove me a bit batty since she was so unbelievably dense, and the book was predictable and very convenient. But Phillip’s character saved the day. He made for a great story and I would love to see Heir to Edenbrooke finished with the entire story from his point of view.
I also appreciated the clean romance. I’m an atheist, so not part of the author’s target audience, but it annoys me when romance novels get straight to the point by page 15. It’s way more fun taking the long way around.

Ehh... not the must thrilling of books but it helps past the time when bored.
A lovely book. Lovely! This is a a traditional Regency romance with more historically accurate morality and manners than many of today's Regencies, and it's excellent. The heroine is endearing and enjoyable to spend time with, which is especially important since the book is told in her first-person POV, and the hero...well, he is just wonderful.
Wit, emotion, and sweet, heartfelt romance...a really good, well-written book. Highly recommended, even to my friends who prefer a little more sex in their romance novels. It's so good, you won't even mind that it's not there. No, really!

Oh it was so good! If you like the romantic plots of Jane Austen-esque novels or Downtown Abbey, you'll like this book. It's cheesy and romantic, only there's no sex so it's not one of those bodice rippers (nothing against those, this is just intentionally old fashioned). Unlike an Austen novel it's a very quick read (I read most of it on a flight and it kept me totally entertained). The main character Marianne is a bit much (she's SO different than the other ladies), and she's completely clueless about love, but somehow instead of being annoying it was charming (I could have lived with less twirling tho)? Her romantic interest Phillip is appropriately mysterious and unattainable (Marianne's twin has him in her sights), while also saving her from falling and making her laugh and being her BFF. Totally Hugh Grant circa mid 1990s. Just for fun, go for it.
