The concept was somewhat interesting (though concerning such a product was sold to a HS girl), however I wasn't entertained by this at all. I appreciated that Night is leagues above 99% of male characters in shoujo by not being the kind of guy that sexually assaults his love interest. Sucks that the bar is in hell, but it's disheartening to see how many of these stories involve men hitting on underage girls or not taking "no" for an answer.

The FL is very uninteresting. I acknowledge that the HS girl desperate for boobs and a boyfriend will never be something I've related to. Even as a teenager, I never cared about that sort of thing. However, unlike female leads in other shoujos, this character had nothing else going on for her. She wasn't smart, a good friend, brave or funny. Her only goals in life were having a boyfriend. She doesn't even seem to have any female friends. Why would I root for her?

Night, the fake boy, is the most interesting character and that's quite sad considering. I don't have any interest in continuing this series.

Quick Summary: A Shojo Beat Manga

My Review: Absolute Boyfriend, Vol. 1 by Yuu Watase is part one in the Absolute Boyfriend series. It was published in 2006.

About the Book: Riiko Izawa was a shy but feisty schoolgirl who longed to have a partner. After she was brutally turned down and bad mouthed by her crush, she decided to do something about it. When she was propositioned to try out a lover figure (aka a boyfriend bot) for three days, she was a little apprehensive, but she threw caution to the wind and took a chance. He was everything she wanted and way more.

My Final Say: Absolute Boyfriend is, hands down, one of the most creative stories I've come across in the GN/manga genre this year. Although I'm playing catch up in 2023, it is no hardship. I found it to be humorous, captivating, and delightfully engaging. I can clearly see the direction Watase is heading. In terms of the artwork and dialogue, I thought it was all fantastic.

Other: Early on, there was one flashback scene that was cringy, but other than that, it was top-notch.

This was good. I don't really feel one way or another about it. It was fun reading a series from the early 2000s. The art is great and makes me smile. We'll see how this series progresses.

It is a really quick read and I would recommend it for anyone that wants to read something lighthearted and funny but also shows a side of romance.

Everyone's fantasy who are outsiders, rejected by the hot guys at school she can order a boyfriend (complete with choices of personality features), but after reading reviews of later books where it seems drugging a woman for sex is no big deal I'm not sure if I'm going to continue with the series.

Ridiculous premise, but c'mon who wouldn't want a boyfriend like Night?

This beginning Manga to a six volume series is really weird, but adorably! I love how it starts out and it is rather comical too!
