I was enjoying the book for the most part, but the last quarter or so feels really messy to me from a prose and plot aspect.
Also, I got the impression that the book thinks poorly of open relationships and casual sex, for all that it pretended otherwise. And since this book uses first person present tense, it made Dylan seem annoying to me.

This is a perpetual reread relisten for me. I don't care if relisten isn't a word yet. I like it...)
The characters are just incredibly interesting to me. Something about the combination of angst and humor works. I find the story quite soothing. I suppose I also appreciate a good 'family we make' story. Everyone deserves to be loved even when they try to make it impossible for others to love them.

Nice, could've been more slow burn, didn't like the drama at the end about "will-they-won't-they" and the way Gabe was simply forgiven after a simple apology.
This was very close to a full "win" for me. I loved the humour and the way the author showed Gabe's feelings for Dylan in his glances, etc. without us having to be in Gabe's head.
What I had difficulty with, was the amount of angst and the how long it went on for. I also didn't like Gabe's philandering through the beginning.
Overall, though, this was an enjoyable read. I will read it again, and have already bought the next books in the series.

Quarantine bodice ripper. A bit heteronormative but still distracting and entertaining.
This book was soooo close to being perfect and a rollercoaster!
4/5 star because: Gabe f-ed up big time and the groveling arc nearly not long enough for all that he put Dylan through and Jude acting as double-agent when he saw what happened to Dylan firsthand was annoying. Regardless, I might go back to the book just to read those fun email exchanges. So clever and witty!

I’m so mad at myself that I only recently stumbled onto the amazing stories that Lily Morton writes. Rule Breaker is just another example of sheer fabulousness with its story of Gabe and Dylan. Gabe is so very broken in so many ways and Dylan is so ready to give him all of his love if only Gabe will trust in it, in him.
Epic and amazing.
“You were right to leave me, because I needed to take a long look at myself. I know now that you’re somehow everything I never knew I needed. You’re funny and clever and irreverent. You don’t let me get away with anything, and you stand up to me. You’re kind and generous and warm, and when I see you, something fills up in my chest, and it feels so good. But then you leave, and it’s lonely again, and I’m so fucking tired of being alone and too afraid to try.”
