A thoroughly readable book.
Nothing groundbreaking, zero diversity, just a straight white women friendships, easy read, chick lit.

Started this with the audio book. Narration was ok. Multiple POV's were a bit confusing, especially since the characters didn't really feel developed until the last half or quarter of the book. Not the light & fluffy read I was expecting - some hard issues in this one including assault and end of life decisions, plus spouse cheating, smoking, drinking and money issues
When asked why she wrote this novel, Kletter said "How do we let go of the reins and just accept what life brings us instead of wanting to run and hide and pull the covers over our head and never take a risk or love too much because what if something went wrong? And what are the ways in which those fears mute the experience of living and how can we step away from them—how can we hold the duality of joy and precariousness, love and loss?"
This novel chronicles four best friends as they navigate life though laughter, love and loss. It was a great summer read, going deeper than most, which I appreciated. I would definitely pass it on and recommend to book clubs knowing there are great discussion questions at the end. Sometimes the best families are the ones you choose yourself.

Four best friends who lack strong mother figures become their own chosen families. Summers in Montauk, Long Island provide their best memories until tragedy struck before the girls were set to go off to college. They vow to reunite in twelve years. To celebrate their thirtieth birthdays, a visit back to Montauk is planned between Hannah, Blue, and Maya. Renee, the fourth friend, is not invited to the getaway to take place at Blue’s family beach house. Blue and Renee have not spoken since the tragedy. When Maya invites Renee as a surprise, Blue’s deep wounds from an unspoken incident with Renee remain unhealed.
Hannah’s world revolves around Henry, the love of her life since childhood. Henry is in a vegetative state with little hope for recovery yet Hannah is always there for him. Blue is a highly successful Wall Street executive yet she harbors deep personal insecurities. Maya is irresponsible, carefree and deeply in debt. Renee appears to have it all.
As their reunion progresses, they bare their souls and seek a path to healing and forgiveness as we learn about the tragic event that changed their lives. “There has to be room for mistakes, you know? The question is how much room, how many mistakes? When is a mistake too big to forgive? I don’t know. Sometimes I think we’re all too tough on each other…. Other times I think the opposite – that we accept behaviors we shouldn’t because loneliness suck.”
Author Kerry Kletter has an appealing and lyrical writing style. East Coast Girls will have you thinking about the friends you are still lucky to have in your life and precious memories of simpler times.
Rated 3.75 stars rounded up.

Galloped thru this boring book, scanning the endless introspective thoughts of these four shallow women -- WOMEN! not girls! A female who is 30 is not a GIRL -- Almost nothing happens, and it happens very slowly. The only reason I read to the end was to find out what happened to Henry 12 years ago. And by the way, when you haven't seen someone for 12 years, stop calling them your best friend. Good grief.
This author annoyed me. Never read anything by her again.

I wanted to love this book because I really enjoy the author’s writing style and how she depicts her characters. However, this just wasn’t for me. I hate the overdone plot of “something traumatic happened but we don’t know what it was but it’s constantly being brought up and danced around.” Also, the synopsis for the book says “tragedy strikes again” when they return to Montauk. Did I miss something??? I kept waiting for a catastrophe to occur and nothing happened?
This book is meant for young teenage girls. I think if I went in with that in mind I would have liked it better. It's a book about female friendships and how they ebb and flow throughout the years. No matter how old you are you always need a good female friend on your side.
This story, while not as light as I expected, held my attention throughout. I love stories that go back and forth between present and past, uncovering details as it goes. This book was about a group of four close-knit friends who after a tragic night in high school, part ways for many years.
Their attempt to rekindle their friendship is full of challenge, hardship, and honesty, while ultimately proving how strong true friendships can be. While I did find the subject matter a little heavy for the current time we are living in, I did really enjoy this read.
Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin for an advanced copy.
