A sweet little thing with some lovely moments. There's plenty here you wouldn't expect to see in a modern children's book, but it didn't somehow seem to be such a big issue really. Maria's room in the house sounds absolutely lovely too!

This book blew my expectations out of the water. I adore the writing. The visual descriptions are transporting. They suck you into this lovely story. The odd assortment of characters, that all play a part in the story, are one of my favorite things about it. It truly is a beautiful book. One of my faves of 2020. Now I need to go buy a physical copy for my bookshelf!

Such a sweet little story! I loved Zachariah the cat. The feeling of this book is a cozy, happy spring day.

I wish I'd had this book as a kid. I love it very much now, but I think it would have been my dream book if I'd read it between ages 9 and 13.

Charming 20th-century story with some magical happenings, predictable co-incidences, all loose ends neatly tied up in the end, and it all revolves around a protagonist who feels a bit like Anne Shirley.

Enchanting

This was a fun sweet little book that had lots of sweet nuggets and surprises. There were a few things that were a little dated as compared to what is accepted today regarding marriage. If your child is reading, you might want to do a little explaining about marriageable ages in the past vs. today. The characters were charming, although not realistic in any way. The ending was a little to “neat” for my taste, but I enjoyed nonetheless. I wish there were more low-fantasy for children written like this today.
