Queen of the Dead was a delightful sequel!

After reading The Ghost and the Goth, I was eager to spend more time with Alona and Will. They continued to grow on me in Queen of the Dead. The story picks up right were we left off, and Kade threw some twists and turns in there, that I wasn't prepared for at all! Dramatic, funny and just a little bit of romance, it was the perfect read for a lazy summer day.

I love the dual perspectives in this story! It's great to see the real Alone and Will because what they project outwardly toward their environment isn't true to the people.... er, person and ghost that they really are. This time around we really get to watch them focus on themselves and figuring out what the all ultimately means. They don't go about it in the most efficient ways, but that just makes it more fun to read about!

And after that ending.... wowzers, I was speechless. I can't WAIT to read the next book!

3.5-Unfortunate cover, but really a very good series, well written and great characters. Story progresses and keeps getting better.

  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Strong character development? It's complicated

I REALLY. REALLY.WANT THE NEXT BOOK.

This book was slower than Ghost and the Goth, less things happening, AND NO KIDDING, I felt so emotionally thrown around! But I loved the development of Alona's character, the relationship with her and Will, is just somewhat cute, adorable, and just something special. There was DRAMA, there was cutesy romance, there was sad moments, there was moments when I wanted to slap people. (ok fine... MAYBE only Mina.)
Super, super anxious for what's going to happen next. O.O

In two months, Alona and Will figured out how to work together to help ghosts who are stuck in the in-between to pass on. Their more than friendship relationship is another story. But when Alona finds out her parents are moving on with their lives without her, Alona is set to make them remember who she was-- with Will's help of course. But Will gets distracted by another girl- another ghost-talker who's part of a secret society. This is Will's chance to get the answers he needs to understand who he is, but that doesn't mean he'll like what he'll find, especially when it comes to Alona.

I wasn't too worried about the sequel, but I was interested to see where Kade would take her readers. And I was very pleased, because I never expected it! To read the rest of my review, please visit my blog, A Reading Kabocha.

I think I liked Queen of the Dead even more than the first in the series, The Ghost and The Goth. Again these are not life-changing, deep thought books. They are light, fluffy and entertaining. In this second installment of the series, you see some character evolution with Alona and Will although not too much. Alona is still selfish and catty but she is learing. She starts the book off still wanting to be her parents' little princess and doesn't want them moving on yet Will helps her see it from their side. Also Will and Alona's feelings for each other are building. Will has always had a love/hate with Alona while she never saw him as anything other than odd. Alona is learning that there is more beneath the surface of people. Also Will has to deal with the realization that there are others like him and how he is going to deal with it.

The book ends with a cliffhanger that makes you want to read the next book. But even without it, I would still want to read the third. I want to see where this all ends with Alona and Will and what happens on the road there.

This book was VERY boring and did I mention boring? The writing was awful. The romance wasn't any better and Mina was definitely no competition. The end left me wondering- is that type of thing okay? Isn't it morally wrong?
Not the best book.

Queen of the Dead picks up a couple of months after [b:The Ghost and the Goth|7008041|The Ghost and the Goth (The Ghost and the Goth, #1)|Stacey Kade|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1268423785s/7008041.jpg|7252832]. It's now the middle of summer, and Will and Alona are working together to help other ghosts get into the light. While attempting to help a particularly ornery ghost they meet Mina, who can also communicate with the dead. While Will attempts to get some answers about both his father and his abilities, Alona, in an attempt to get his attention, finds herself in a mess even she can't solve.

Written in the same format, alternating between Will and Alona, this is just as funny and entertaining as [b:The Ghost and the Goth|7008041|The Ghost and the Goth (The Ghost and the Goth, #1)|Stacey Kade|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1268423785s/7008041.jpg|7252832], and unlike many 2nd books in a series it actually moves the story in a new direction. Readers may be divided over how they feel about this direction, but it's definitely going to make for an interesting conclusion to the series.
