When a mysterious 'plague' starts boiling the brains - from the inside - of Glitter Band citizens, the Prefects of Panoply are once again caught up in an emergency. Is this the work of Aurora, or the Clockmaker, or something new? And such terrible timing, as a demagogue-like trouble maker is encouraging habitats to break away and declare independence from the policing force that clearly can't protect them...
Read on the heels of the first in the series, this was a welcome return to the world of Tom Dreyfus. I still think we've yet to see the best story set in this marvellous universe, so I'm hoping there more to come!
Full review, as ever, on my blog.

Enjoyable listen. I could listen to John Lee read the phone book. However, I do think he changed some of the voices of the characters and it didn't seem to sit right.
I felt that Alastair had shifted some of the personalities away from who the characters were in the first book. I understand there were a few years between them but some clarification as to why characters appeared to be 'different' would have settled the unease.

The plot is a little unconvincing, sadly, but I did quite enjoy the reading.
Didn't like it as much as the first one, but it is gripping enough to justify the 4 stars.
Solid world building that continues to grow the Revelation Space universe and the characters also continue to develop, becoming more complex. Solid police procedural that also delves into identity, loss, grief and demagoguery.
Notes:
3.5 for the Story
It was not as tight of a plot line as the Prefect. The two books do go well together because there are linked events between the two. I didn't like the extended ending.

Another phenomenal book in the Revelation Space universe. Lots of mystery and twists that had me guessing almost all the way up to the reveal. Was happy to spend a little more time with Sparver.
