I picked up Long Bright River immediately after finishing another 500 page book and I was afraid I was making a big mistake choosing another long read. That didn't stop me from flying through this book in two days. Moore has written a literary yet fast paced mystery that I greatly enjoyed despite its very heavy and dark subject matter.
This book highlighted so many things - family, addiction, betrayal, and what it is like to be committed to a place that has seen extremely hard times. Our MC Mickey is not a perfect character - she has flaws and I absolutely did not agree with some of the choices she made. I appreciate that Moore gave her imperfections though. This made her character all the more realistic.
Moore's The Unseen World is one of my all time favorite books. While the story in Long Bright River was very different, Moore's commitment to writing complex characters and relationships was still evident. I can't wait for her next book in June.

Starts off really slow, and if I hadn’t been reading for a book club, I would have stopped. But it started to pick up about halfway through, and it was worth it to finish.
