Ended up just being an average read for me. The classic writing style is always something I struggle getting immersed in, and the novel ultimately ended up being more of a paranormal romance rather than a horrifically scary read. There were some gross out parts and some creepy vignettes but since the novel is written in an epistolary style it would quickly move to something more prosaic and often more uneventful. Just an average read in the end. Not the amazing Halloween read I was hoping for.

I simultaneously loved it, and it put me in a reading slump. I never know what to rate books anymore!

I loved this. I think it was definitely improved by the reading of it aloud, and by such great voices. I didn't think it would be as exciting as it was based on the first few pages, but it really did thrill me in a way novels usually don't. I loved the characters and found it all very entertaining. Maybe it doesn't quite translate as well when just reading. I was genuinely chilled by parts and definitely uncomfortable with all the blood transfusions and such (I am rather squeamish). So, if you can't stand reading this, give this version a listen. It is well worth it.
