writing a review although it's been ages since i read that book. I love the cover and the "idea" of the book. But after reading i was immensely disappointed, maybe this book would have been a 5/5 if i was like 12. the mc is so annoying and the typical "im so poor like rlly rlly poor but so hardworking and smart, oh btw my moms also dead"-girl. Like fine, i dont have anything against this trope if its carried out well but in this case this whole thing made her whole personality well not whole personality but hers was so two dimensional it pissed me off. And another thing that bothered me was the "romance". ofc the two rich handsome grandsons of deceased multi mutli multi rich billionaire guy fall immediately in love with mc avery because she's so interesting and different and special ad smart (*eye rolling) and jamison annoyed the heck out of me this guy whats even his personality all he does is talk nonsense??? ok i hold a personal grudge against him. i cant stand this anymore, this book was just 80% clichees and 20% riddles on top of that those riddles weren't even interesting. I'm a sucker for clichees but this was just carried out badly or maybe i've just grown out of it. only recommend for 12-13 years old.

I love twisty-turny riddles and puzzles, even though it and a substantial chunk of the writing are YA as hell. (I couldn't get over the "hypercompetitive bisexual perfectionist" line as the most carrd-in-bio ass clunky exposition I've seen in a WHILE, and this book has a NUMBER of monologues. These three words have made their home in the wrinkles of my brain, forever.) I especially enjoyed how each Hawthorne brother has a distinct personality that plays well off of Avery; she had chemistry with them all, even the 1.5 brothers she doesn't really have a romance route with. Idk man it doesn't take much to compel me

I like Grayson better even if he IS an effective altruist. I love characters who appropriate panganay syndrome.

I loved the puzzle of it. Romance kind of seemed forced, especially towards the end.
