This book gave the romance and adventure of YA without minimizing this real and tragic time in history.

My Top Quote: “What kind of human do you want to be?”

Thanks to the author, publisher and libro.fm, I was able to listen to the ALC audiobook. I had trouble getting into the story at first, but it picked up for me quickly. Because some of the content is for a more mature audience, I would recommend this story to high school students who enjoy historical fiction, especially fans of Alan Gratz and other WWII books.

This is a work of fiction and isn't based on a real event. I do think this book is for mid to late teen and older as some subject matter may be hard to read. I found this so interesting and heartbreaking. You really get into Mira's life and feel for her.

This book does what no other young adult historical world war 2 fiction book has done before. (I've read a lot so I know a thing or two lol). This book really strives to show every terrible aspect of the Warsaw ghetto and what the Germans did to the Jews and even what Jews did to their own people. It's a highly thought provoking book which explores the things you'll do to stay alive and keep your family alive. My main problem with it (and the reason I gave 4 stars) was that the character survives nearly certain death so many times I lost count which made the book feel a little unrealistic. I also thought that the very last sentence of the book was horribly cliche and it made me real mad.
