•My Thoughts•
This was really enjoyable and also really hard for me to rate. I loved the bones of the story, the heart, the characters but I just wanted more time with them and more emotional burn! Isaac was swoony and protective. He was a pediatric surgeon (add MORE swoon) and he was so brave with his feelings. I just wanted to give our FMC, Aubrey the biggest squeeze. Her childhood trauma affected her so deeply and I ached for her. Aubrey’s dad was phenomenal side character, a grumpy ex military man suddenly left with a little girl and he rocked it. I loved Isaac and Aubrey’s second chance and their chemistry was perfection. I think what I struggled with the most was wanting more time with the characters and how they come together. I totally get their instant connection and it was written very believably but so many things happened so fast. So many big changes so quickly and I just wanted to be a part of more of their inner thoughts and moments that lead them together. Also, despite the fact this was described as closed door, I didn’t love how the characters relied on their physical connection so much - personally, I wanted to read more of the emotions. Regardless, I loved MOST of all, the author’s connection and inspiration for the story. As a reader, it connected me even more to learn the story behind the story and Jennifer was sweet enough to share. She also mentioned that her next book will give us some answers about a certain side character and I am here for it!!

 * (Author called it closed door but the scenes lead you through intimacy completion, just not explicit at all - like a few sentences)

Aubrey has been dumped by her boyfriend without warning and her best friend, Britt, just wants to cheer her up so drags her to a bar one night, and even suggests she find a man for a one night stand. Aubrey isn’t interested though and is about to leave when she meets Isaac.

They promise each other one hour and no more. Isaac is about to leave the country for work, and Aubrey isn’t interested in a relationship with anyone. So some weeks later when she finds out she’s pregnant she has no way of telling him. They never exchanged numbers or even last names.

Cut to four years later and Aubrey’s daughter, Claire, breaks her arm. The hospital brings in a specialist to do the surgery, and the surgeon is none other than Isaac. He figures out that Claire is his and desperately wants to be in her life. Can he and Aubrey co-parent like champs? Or will their undeniable attraction ruin things for them all?

I read a fair few mixed reviews on this but I really enjoyed it. I can understand why Aubrey was so apprehensive to let Isaac into her life and her heart. But Isaac was just too adorable. He wanted to be Claire’s dad so much that he would do anything asked of him. And he ultimately wanted to be with Aubrey too. He was so gentle and understanding, never really pushing her too far for fear she’d run the other way.

Jenna was a totally pointless character. That whole thing was resolved so early in the book that ultimately nothing would have changed if she actually didn’t even exist. I thought maybe we’d get more drama, more angst from her involvement.

I feel a little robbed of Aubrey confronting her mother. Very anticlimactic on that part. It’s great that she was the bigger person and realised what she has but I was gearing up for a little showdown.

Also, zero smut. It was all fade to black or closed door which didn’t feel right for this book. Maybe that’s just me as I like a side (or main) of smut with my romance but I did find that a little disappointing.

All in all, a lovely story with relatable characters.

This book was an entertaining read. I think it was hard to read Aubreys character though. She was very bland & boring in my opinion. There wasn’t a lot of “romance” either. I think this book was okay overall. I wouldn’t read it again.

TikTok failed me. This book was drawn out, boring, slow, and it’s a clean romance. Seriously not one sexy scene after all that???? Our heroine’s woe is me attitude was over the top for the subject matter. I’ve gone through shit twice as bad, and if I ever became as closed off and insufferable as this main character…. I don’t know.. but it wasn’t good.

This book

I loved this book. I stayed up so I could finish in one sitting because I wanted to know how it ended.

The character developments were great. I liked how it ended. I was happy to see a second epilogue.

At the end the author explains why she made some choices and that was nice to know. I usually am a spice reader but this had none and it was the best way to write this story. I think adding spice would have changed the focus to much.

Overall one of the best books for me this year.
