3.7 AVERAGE

This was a powerful story. There were times I had to stop reading because it was hard to read the characters going through what they had to. They really pulled on the heartstrings big time. Julia and Eric's journey filled with many ups and downs, but it made my heart so happy with their end destination. Hang in there with Eric because sometimes you want to shake him, but the book title does fit him to a tee. It's a second chance for these two. They have history before college at the same prep school. Julia had so much going on in her life that no one her age should be shouldering. It makes it all the more sweeter for what Julia and Eric find with one another. A great story!

I did not read the first book. After reading this, probably a good thing.

The characters were not interesting. Way too much drama, seemingly just for the sake of it. One of the biggest issues was resolved pretty quickly for all the time spent on it. I'm not sure where exactly I gave up and started skimming. Was it supposed to be a hockey romance? It was more like a college one. You could remove half the drama and it'd still be too much.

If there were beta readers, perhaps finding some that would give *actual* feedback would be more helpful. The "oh wow, 5 star" types aren't helping. Seemed like a rough draft was pushed through.

Would I skim again? Ha, no. Won't bother with the series.

Thoughts: Great read, will add more to review later.

This book immediately had me swept up in the story. Such a beautiful hard fought journey to an hea for Eric and Julia. So many trials along the way. I really loved how they became friends even with what happened at prep school. How Eric encouraged Julia to follow her dreams. I loved the hockey guys and their traditions. Hated the Kappa guys. Loved the first Hockey game. It made me laugh. This book will make you go through all the emotions. The little bit of poetry was also a nice bonus.

This book is such a rollercoaster! Boyfriend Material is packed with all the angst, drama, and swoony moments that make new adult romance so addictive. It’s got enemies-to-lovers vibes, second chances, and a hockey player who’s not as perfect as he seems.

What I Loved:
- Eric and Julia: These two are so different yet so perfect for each other. Eric is the golden boy hiding his struggles, and Julia is the strong, resilient heroine fighting her own battles. Their chemistry? Off the charts!
emotional lighthearted medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix

Gah! I just love these so much! I devoured this one in a few hours and couldn't put it down! I loved everything about Julia, even though I was skeptical of her in Boyfriend Bargain at first, but she definitely grew on me, and I fell in love with her here! I already loved Eric from the other book with his lightheartedness and friendship and kindness, but he was utter perfection in this one. I'm so glad I went ahead and bought book 2!

This was a real angsty read. Just when I thought Julia and Eric would get their HEA, some new obstacle stood in their way. It kept me reading and made their Happily Ever After that much more rewarding. This second chance romance will frustrate you then have you jumping for joy at the end.

Been waiting for this one for awhile, but it was well worth the wait. There was definitely more darkness than I expected and the author covered a number of important issues. I struggled a little bit with Julia's ongoing forgiveness of Eric's behavior and treatment of her, but in reality it's likely exactly as someone her age would. The HEA always makes the ugliness of easier to read. Great book and I look forward to what this author brings next.

I am always impressed with Ms. Madden-Mills's writing. As I get to be a more, shall we say, vintage, it gets more challenging for me to invest in young adult stories, but Ms. Madden-Mills always brings a reality and vibrancy to her characters no matter what their age.

This is the story of Eric and Julia, prep-school classmates that became more. Well more to Julia and not to Eric. Broken-hearted but not beaten, Julia goes on to college and keeps her path far from Eric.

I admire Julia's character; she is strong she is fierce, and she apologizes to no one. She has struggles aplenty and does what she must to make ends meet. Even some less than what would consider "proper," but it made me admire her all the more for it.

Eric lives with a guilt that eats him alive. He tries to assuage that guilt by living the life that was taken. He knows his actions in his past has labeled him as a "no strings" fella, but he remembers Julia and wants to become the one she needs.

The relationship between Julia and Eric is moving and just what is needed for both of them.

Ms. Madden-Mills touches on some delicate subjects in this story, and she does it with dignity, realism and sensitivity. I applaud her for this.
