Five out of five stars! Fantastic contemporary romance read!
Boyfriend Material started as a slow burn, where the characters already knew each other well, their past not all rainbows and sunshine. They acted timidly around each other before they caved in, and the build up was everything.
They both had secrets and demons of their own and only a select few knew what was going on behind closed doors. Julia carried an enormous burden, Eric was struck by guilt and other people's expectations. My heart broke for them, they deserved better. I loved their friendship and how much they came to mean to each other. And the romantic tension between them was so delicious to read about. They were made for each other.
This was simply divine and the epilogue was so sweet and heartwarming.
Ilsa's storylines are engaging, her characters are developed and she always drops some complex issues into her stories, which I love.
I loved every minute of this story.

I have been dying to get my hands on this book for some time now and I was not disappointed. I devoured this book as soon as I got my hands on it and I could not put it down. Both Julia and Eric are harboring so much pain that has been inflicted on them from their families in their own way. Julia trying to keep her head above water and take care of her mom to Eric trying to be something he is not just to appease his father. It is raw and emotional with them just alone. But when they are together, it is pure fire. It also helps that these two have a history that is heartbreaking too. There is angst, sizzle and so much more wrapped up in this story from start to finish and I just adored it. I am so looking forward to more within this world!
This book is such a fun contemporary read! It's a popular guy and down-on-her-luck girl--Eric is wealthy, captain of the hockey team, and well-to-do through and through. Julia is stripping to take care of her mother and pay off a loan shark, but was also the scholarship kid at the prep school back in high school with Eric. A brief fling and heartbreak from their teenage years ensured that the two avoided each other in college, but a few chance meetings and a chemistry that can't be denied brings them back together. And while Eric's got a lot going for him, the pressure from his family also threatens to break him. Julia's encounter with him one terrible night leads to more and more, and soon, they're seeing a whole lot of one another.

***Audiobook Review***
4 STARS
I really enjoyed. Lots of outside drama (not really OW or OM), just college drama and rivals. They each also have troubled pasta with parents.
I overall really liked the characters and them as a couple, and the narrators did a great job!
It also has a great secondary cast of characters.
Definitely would recommend reading if you love drama and angst and new adult romances.

this was somehow better & worse than book 1. my only comment is why does everyone have sm trauma
I can’t say that I’ve ever written a review of where I am proud of the heroine but y’all! I am so proud of Julia!! She has had such a rough time & she never quit!! She never quit believing in herself & when the time was right she stood up in the best way
Julia and Eric‘s lives are not what they seem from the outside. Julie is struggling to help keep her mom afloat and having to do whatever she can do just to maintain living and finishing her degree. Eric is still spinning out from his family drama trying to be someone he’s not. When theses two collide it is hot hot hot. The most unlikely of friends can be the love of your life. Madden-Mills gives us all the angst drama and steamy levels in boyfriend material. Plus hockey win win all around.
Rating: 5 stars
Trigger/Content Warnings: Scenes of Sexual Assault.
The highly anticipated sequel in Ilsa Madden-Mill’s Hawthorne University series is finally here! Boyfriend Material is the college sports romance that I didn’t know I was craving and everything I needed. The story revolves around Julia, a once prime student with a full ride— now turned stripper struggling to stay afloat, and Eric, a star player both on the ice and off who is slowly breaking under the pressure. But when an ordinary night turns anything but for the both of them and their paths cross once more; Eric finds himself unable to stay away from Julia and is desperate to prove to her that he has what it takes to be Boyfriend Material.
Yall! I think it is safe to say that Ilsa Madden-Mills writes some of my all-time favorite college sport romances. Honestly, Boyfriend Material was top-tier, and I couldn’t get enough of it. The story starts off rough (please see trigger warnings!) and deals with heavy topics throughout, but I was glad that the author had forewarned about it at the start so that I could prep myself mentally before diving in. Julia and Eric were such dynamic characters from start to finish and their development throughout both together and individually is something that I truly enjoyed watching grow.
I also really loved how the struggle and conflict wasn’t just one sided like we see in many college romances (heroine/hero has issues and the focus is on that), but rather both our main characters were going through their own struggles and woes—both needing each other to heal the wounds they were both trying desperately to ignore.
All in all, Ilsa Madden-Mills has once again hit it out of the park with this second chance enemies to lovers hockey romance. The chemistry was electrifying, the story beautifully written, and my heart is over-full with the amount of swooning I did while devouring this story. 10/10 would recommend!
big thank you to the author for sending me an ARC in exchange for my honest review!
