This was a slog. Having started reading this last year it took a while for me to get into. Like a long time. So to see if listening to the audiobook would make a difference tried that and that worked a lot better. Still not my favourite book and much prefer his books and series with Graham McTavish.
Loved this book. I prefer to do biographies as audiobooks with the authors reading it and wow, was this one one of the best. The added content to the audiobook that was put in, like his own recordings added to the story and it felt like you were part of it. He’s very relatable on a personal level as well, with his struggles prior to Outlander and his absent father. You’re on a journey with Sam in this book and it was great to go with him.

This is a very genuine and earnest memoir. I listened to the audiobook and loved his narration (that voice!) and was really able to appreciate the man behind the characters he portrays on screen. He really let his personality shine in sweet, funny, and sometimes dorky ways. We’ve all got a little nerd in us - it’s refreshing to see that in someone who can seem larger than life. He included some funny voices/impersonations, and a personal audio diary that really complemented the overall book. Also enjoyed the companion PDF of pictures!
I’m an avid hiker myself, though am not nearly as fit as Mr Heughan. It was validating to hear that he struggled through portions of his journey. I appreciated how he weaved his walking trek with his past, and the reflections he shared.
Overall, a very pleasant listen, though admittedly, I’m a touch bummed I can’t just give him a ring and ask how his day is because I feel like I know him now!
