I said “No, Sam, no!” So many times while reading this book.

I loved the storytelling and the structure to this memoir. The insight into Sam’s life was such a gift. And the audiobook is absolutely top tier, including his own voice recordings from his journey.

This was an interesting book. It jumped between the present (with Sam walking the West Highland Way) and various stories from his past (beginning and ending with him and brother in Canada to see their father before he died). The back and forth kept things interesting, and the adventure added extra fun and excitement.

Listened on the drive back from Wales, ahead of my planned trip to walk the west highland way. Was very informative (and a bit worrying) - glad we share the same love of hiking poles and hatred of sleeping in a tent in the rain. Was very funny and shows a lot of the benefits of mindfulness unwinding throughout the walk, felt inspirational to hear his story and he came away from the telling a very nice guy. I'm only a small portion in love (and majority of that is the accent)

An introspective book that reveals much about the author over a journey of (almost) 100km and the journey of a lifetime. It’s a calming book, paced slow and steady like a hiker/walker. Not as self-indulgent as many memoirs, this was a very enjoyable read. Recommended.
