Entertaining book but I really can’t move on without mentioning Sam’s reference on page 247 to a “Trojan” on his sports top….. it’s a SPARTAN
This was an awesome read solely for the West Highland Way storyline. The reader follows Sam Hueghan (who plays Jamie Fraser in the TV series Outlander) as he hikes the West Highland Way in a break between jobs. Sam details his journey and includes semi-connected vignettes from his childhood and path into acting. I was glad to learn about the person behind Jamie Fraser, and I found Sam Heughan's voice to be inviting, open, and familiar. Sam's journey on the East Highland Way is what my dreams are made of and if I did not already want to visit Scotland, I sure do now.
I loved listening to it as an audio book. Hearing Sam read it made it so you could really feel what he was talking about.

I’m indifferent to this author as an actor, but I was drawn to his book because a niche genre I love is people taking long hikes to allow for self-reflection or discovery. To that end, I was left a bit disappointed. The book was described as a love letter to the wild Scottish landscape, but for me, it read more like a memoir about the author’s life and acting career. The hike was a six-day trip and after the first night, he stayed in hotels and appeared to have a fair amount of interaction with people, which wasn’t what I expected. With that said, I listened to this on audio, which the author read himself, and he was a great storyteller. The vibe was more like he was chatting with friends than narrating a book, which I liked. The audiobook also included recordings he did while actually on the hike, which I loved! To hear his steps and the patter of rain while he spoke, knowing it was genuine and from the hike, added something unique and special. While this wasn’t exactly what I was looking for, if you’re a fan of the author or his acting career, this is likely a great pick for you.

This was another great read from Sam. I really enjoy how he combines his love of the outdoors while taking a journey with actually taking us through the journey is his life!
I loved his writing, narration, and the field recordings he added to each chapter! Super fun to listen to
