I purchased this because it was on special and being promoted. That being said, had it been brought to my attention earlier that Sam Heughan had written a book about hiking the West Highland Way, his rise into acting AND narrated the audiobook, I would have read it much sooner.
While I am an Outlander fan, I've always found Sam an interesting person, and this book just endeared me to him as a person further.
He's funny, relatable, and super nice (maybe a wee little too nice in some situations, where I would definitely be a crabby cow) and the current crowned King of Mushrooms. His ability to not take himself too seriously only adds to his charm.
I'm so glad I made this purchase. It's one I really couldn't put down and will definitely relisten to.
Even if you're not an Outlander fan, listening to his journey, his confessions about relationship building, and his endeavours to break it big in acting was an extremely enjoyable read.

The best part of this book is the audiobook version being read by the author. He decides to hike the West Highland Way path across Scotland and shares that journey. I loved the audio he recorded while on his journey. The book then intersperses accounts of his life. I loved it and am a bit sad to see the final season out Outlander to come out today.

Word of advice: put down the book, pick up your headphones! Sam does an INCREDIBLE job narrating this. I have been so invested in his story! And not only does he read his book - he includes commentary, voices, and recordings from his time on the trail. Absolutely fantastic :)
As a fan of Sam, Outlander and Men in Kilts this book was a must read for me! The early back story when Sam was theater actor was a bit dry, but I loved his unwillingness to admit defeat amongst so much disappointment and rejection. Reading about his low self confidence, time working at Denny’s and other odd and ends jobs was really interesting. I didn’t know that about him! And witnessing his love of whiskey and cocktails be born from his bartending job was just brilliant. I really enjoyed this read!

I really enjoyed the audible version of this book. Not only was it great to hear Sam’s voice the whole time, I really enjoyed the parallel journeys of his life and the highland way adventure. Makes me want to go and see it for myself.
