I really enjoyed this book. It had Emily Giffin’s romantic girly touch with Cecily’s meet cute at a bar, but also took a serious turn with the 9/11 plot. It was more than just a chicklit, I got attached to the characters and really wanted to find out what would happen.

I have feelings about this book. Fair warning - none of them are good. When I picked up this book, it was billed as a mystery. Girl meets guy. Girl falls in love with guy, but guy has secrets. I'm intrigued.
What I got was a pseudo coming of age story that isn't sure if it wants to be a romance novel or a mystery novel. There is a page in the book where it legitimately feels like one book is ending (the romance portion) and another book is starting (the weak mystery portion).
The problem wasn't that it was predictable (though it was), it's that it spent to long focusing on how gaga she was for him that the mystery at the end felt rushed.
In my opinion the ending was garbage. It made no sense how the person who did her wrong ends up being the person she 'loves forever' and gives her the perfect life. No reasonable person would make the same decision.
Perhaps that's the point. Even if that is what the author going for, it was too busy. Pick a theme and stick to it.
I'll give it 2 stars for decent writing style and being a quick read. Not many books make me want to throw it across the room at the end, so it has that going for it.

I spent the first third of the book trying to figure out how 9/11 was going to factor in (a story set in summer of 2001 in NYC is obviously going to use 9/11 as some way to drive the story), the second third of the book being annoyed at how the book was still not over, and the last third of the book trying to just finish it so I could check it off my list. Do not recommend.
I knew there were going to be lies. But wow, this one had twists and turns - shocking I know, but it made me cry. It was a little dramatic. But would recommend!!
