I didn't love the story and probably would have put it down but I was reading it on an airplane (which was kind of surreal given the subject matter.)

I finished this book rather quickly as I was dying to see how it would end. I really enjoyed the beginning but as the story went on it felt more and more ridiculous. There was too much going on.  I also don’t love the ending. Overall I enjoyed the book but it’s not my favorite.

Are 9/11 books a genre like cancer-related novels? This book was okay, but with a very convenient ending, and a somewhat ridiculous twist. There was foreshadowing for the twist, but I thought, no, there's no way...and then there it was.

I loved the beginning of this book as the main character ended up falling for an unexpected man after a tough breakup. It felt like it might have been a rebound romance, but the two connected on such deep levels that it made Cecily question whether she really had anything meaningful at all with her ex.

I enjoyed the romance and twists, but the story got more and more dramatic as time went on. Once 9/11 happened, I was kind of irritated that the author would use such a major event as a plot device.. there are tons of ways for someone to find out their significant other is missing and literally any other event could have worked for this. Yes, he was a trader, but I guess I just kind of feel like if none of the characters were going to truly have a connection to the events of 9/11 other than plausibly working in the World Trade Center, it’s probably not a good event to include. I know it’s been like 20 years, but it still.. too soon.

I flew through the book, though, even as it got ridiculous. She ended up moving on with her ex and realized there were some connections to her missing beau. She did some research to help move on and grieve properly, but she still kept going in a relationship with her ex and I hated him. I could tell she wasn’t comfortable moving forward, but she just kept saying yes to everything.

I rated this three stars because I enjoyed it, but if I think too hard about it, I’m annoyed at Cecily, the whole twist with her boyfriend, the whole dramatic relationship with her ex, and the ending was kind of crazy.

I would recommend to anyone who loves a good dramatic contemporary romance and it was a quick read, but anyone who wants the decisions of characters to make sense may be a little annoyed at the way Cecily handled all of her decisions.

I did not love the ending, but the story held my interest steadily throughout.

Interesting read. A lot was going on.

3.5 stars. Rounded up as I got to have a brief visit with Ethan from Something Borrowed/something blue. Initial thoughts of the book was an improvement over her last one that I hated. This one reminded me of her earlier work but it seems she was trying too hard to set the time period. Way to many irritating 90’s/2000 references at the onset but thankfully they tapered off as the book moved forward.
As the novel progressed, it definitely improved until that one part (and you will know it when you get there) where things kind of fell apart for me.

Overall, not her best but not the worst.
