One of the main characters is non-binary, the other is bisexual (I think, it's been a minute since I read this) and the bulk of the conflict is driven by the competition both main characters are in.
I loved every single thing about this book. Just made my heart glow.
Very fun premise but I agree with other reviews here that mention the odd timing. I also found the prose/voice inconsistent and at times sloppy. There were also some plot holes which may have been the casualties of the weird timing.
I first read this book almost 3 years ago after looking for fiction with nonbinary representation. I knew it was a romance, but I hadn't read books with particularly spicy scenes before and was surprised to ce across them here. I then immediately read One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston and realized that I could totally get into the queer romance genre. (I think it's in my top three genres for the year, actually.) Anyway, this one was totally worth a re-read after reading the rest of Anita Kelly's books this year. It was fun to see elements of future books hinted at, though a little strange to see the differences between their characters in the Nashville romance books and those in their Moonlighters series. Both are amazing though. I'm so glad to have found this author.
A fun queer rom-com that takes place during a cooking show competition. Made me wish the cooking show was real so I could watch it!
I enjoy this authors inclusivity, focus on consent and respecting boundaries. We are seeing healthy relationships form. And it’s damn sexy too!
This queer rom-com takes place during a reality cooking competition. With lots of talk about food and two characters who are trying to find and be their true selves, this novel is a cut above the usual rom-com fare. I really liked it and thought narrator Lindsey Dorcus did a fabulous job. At times I did find Dahlia (she/her) a little too over-the-top with her zaniness but that didn’t take away from the chemistry her and London (they/them) had. This audiobook kept me smiling.
