i am a silly billy who didnt read the first book but i didnt have to in order to appreciate it

a fully realised world and characters. massively agree that people who say the dialogue is unnatural or the characters too stiff are simply unable to appreciate the cultural situation of the book. but more importantly, perhaps a reading comprehension issue? cant you feel the clearly painted restraints of small town ireland everywhere in every sentence in this book? cant you decipher what a character is thinking or feeling based on very detailed and vivid descriptions of their actions and reactions? cmon girl

anyways, i enjoyed. not perfect but i enjoyed

A grim realistic but expected outcome to the so-called "epic romance" of Brooklyn.

Not entirely sure about it, I liked the writing ,funny and charming but the characters were too stiff, which I’m sure was what was intended but it exasperated me ultimately

Loved Brooklyn but this isnt a patch on that. Eilis' flawed, indecisive character is relatable and endearing at 20 but frustrating and a little bitter in her mid-40s. She's had 0 character development in 20 years and is STILL just letting life happen to her.

Also, Nancy deserved better

I did not read Brooklyn, never the less Long Island was intriguing and I absolutely loved it. I enjoyed the writing style, short sentences and uncomplicated words, humbly written. A lovely summer read, it kept me hooked. I would love a part 3 to this story.
