My friend has been trying to get me to read this for a while now. I finally picked it up and honestly, I don't know why she insisted it was so good.
We usually share a similar interest in books but this one didn't do it for me. It has an interesting idea but I found it way too easy to read. I've read JUV books that are more challenging.
I'll continue the seris but I'm really not expecting anything to come out of them that will make me understand why, of all books out there, this one was made into a TV series.

Vividly written--Celia Thomson does an excellent job writing her prose. The characters are realistic and addictive.

WOW! This book is so bad. I, like many others, watched the ABC Family adaptation, and I remember liking it (I was 11 when it came out though lol), so I wanted to read the original story, especially since the series got cancelled. But this was just plain awful.
The characters were so unbelievably annoying and irritating, especially Chloe. She was probably the worst part, to be honest. Her attitude towards literally everyone really got on my nerves. Her friends weren't the greatest, especially Amy, but she was pretty rude to them too, and she wanted to shift all the blame to them. I also didn't appreciate how she kept calling Alyec (that's how it was spelled in the novel) stupid throughout the whole book either. She spent no time actually getting to know him, and just assumed things about him. Brian was bland and predictable, which sucks because I liked him a lot in the show.
But the worst crime this book committed, was being unbearably boring. I could not get immersed or invested in anything that was happening at all. The writing was also really poor, it made it hard to visualize or sympathize with anything. It's incredibly disappointing how all of this potential was lost. The idea of this story is fascinating, hence why I've wanted to read it for so long. I can't say that I would recommend this to anyone.

I picked up this series on a whim. I remember watching the first season of the show based on this book (before it was cancelled) and really liking it.
I'm a little disappointed that the first book is all building up to what will be a much larger story arc than I thought. I would have preferred their to be more meat in the first book, giving me a better understanding of the main plot lines, without it being necessary to read book two.
Other than that and a few very minor details (that you would only pick up on if you were familiar with San Fransisco) I really enjoyed the characters, writing, and what the story was building to.
This is a fun young adult fantasy read and if you have a passing interest in Egyptology I think you'll quite enjoy it.
Now onto book two so I can dive into the meat of it all!

There was a lot of teenage waffling here with little plot movement. I will be reading the second book bc I have hopes it will have more content but I’m prepared to be disappointed again.
I really loved the TV show (I watched the show long before I knew it was a book), but now I can't get the show out of my head which is making reading this book kind of painful.
The other day, one of my best friends introduced me to the hit tv series: The Nine Lives of Chloe King. When I first started watching it, I thought it would be ridiculous and phony. After staying up until five in the morning watching said program, I changed my view of the show. I saw it as adventurous, twisted, horrific, and terrifyingly good. I promptly begged The Introducer of The Show to let me borrow the full trilogy of books! On Thursday I began reading The Fallen and finished it the next day. I then started the second book and finished it on Friday as well. Today I am journeying through the epic, twisted last book of the trilogy that I find so awesome and totally realistic that I can hardly put it down!
I conclude that if you are looking for a blend of adventure, horror, mystery, and a dash of romance, this series/book is the one for you!

Seriously different from the show, but the book was still really good.
