I have many thoughts and feelings on this book, but I'm not going to say much here.
Started off as a good book, but quickly became 'too much.' I like the characters, but also became annoyed with them, and the purposeful misunderstandings they'd fall into, were written into. I'm not in the right headspace to be comfortable with that due to personal dramas. The moment I set this book down, it was too easy to continue emotionally distancing myself from it to lessen the stress it caused. Unfortunately a miss and a drop for me.

Not currently in the mood for this type of story. Will 100% come back to it

Oliver’s story is one of personal growth, of finding courage under difficult circumstances and never giving up on true love. It fits right into Karla’s Lore&Lust universe where life is controlled by strict rules and purebreds rule as elite vampires.
Young and inexperienced Oliver is the sweetest person (vampire) ever, suffocating under the iron rule and constant verbal abuse of his father and the subtle humiliation he must endure from his fiancé. He is forced into an arranged marriage with vampire royalty and while Alexander (his fiance) isn't a bad person and trying his best to win Oliver over, they have a hard time connecting. The fact that Oliver had been given no choice at any point about their courtship doesn’t help at all. When the wedding preparations call for Aries, the older, famous designer to work on his suit, Oliver experiences utter attraction for the first time ever … his nature calls to Aries’ and the connection is instant and mutual. While Aries admires Oliver as a creative photographer and writer, something his family abhors and forbids, he is very cautious about building any bonds with him due to his young age, his sheltered life, and his status within the upper class. Aries isn’t purebred, they would never have a future so their days of talking intimately and truly getting to know each other are numbered. This was a slow-burn, gentle story about how Oliver’s feelings grew to the point where he couldn’t deny them any longer, where he craved Aries so much he was willing to risk anything and everything. I liked both lead characters and really hated all the crazy restrictions and rituals they had to put up with. They do get their happy ending but it is a journey, dotted with many obstacles. I'm looking forward to reading Alexander's story, he deserves to find true love.

This book was amazing!  It’s a love story all people deserve! The characters are amazing.

Sweet, enjoyable story. Given over in that lovely, unhurried, rolled-out way particular to this author.

Liked Oliver and the tale in general, but points lost for a few things.

Never got a distinct sense of Aeries - to the extent where at some points in the books it seemed that he wasn’t actually the main love interest. Would have liked to have the opportunity to know him more, and that didn’t come through.

Was also hoping Lord Blakeley would get his comeuppance, but perhaps that will come about in upcoming books.

Felt that the haste of Oliver’s final escape from the castle left a little to be desired. It felt like a missed opportunity that it wasn’t explored more.

The intimate scenes were a little too - camera pans away to some fluttering curtains - IMO. I care more about the story than the level of spice in any book, but this felt like the author was trying very hard to not be explicit in a way that was somehow distracting. It didn’t feel like it was enough to match the rest of the story, and detracted from the intimacy.

Surprisingly, Alexander was the most relatable character for me. Look forward to reading his book.
