Is it terrible that I would say this is one of the lightest of Slaughter's books that I've read. Also had a manic chuckle when she said in the authors note at the end that she's been writing love stories the whole time. Very good. Very traumatic. Ugh. Karin Slaughter.

I really like Karin Slaughter and this series of hers, and I still gave it a 4, but was disappointed with this one because I knew who did it far too early. (Well I guessed who it was and was correct.) I like being surprised and I wasn’t with this one.

Bro this was so good finding out who the killer was waa such a twist really didn’t expect that tbh it was very gripping throughout really enjoyed it

So while I love Karin slaughter's standalone books I've never read one of her will trent stories. I normally find crime procedural books written from a detective POV boring and uninteresting so I dont pick em up. And yet here we are now granted when I downloaded this book I didnt know it was a will trent story until I started it but I said wth let's keep going. I enjoyed it! Yes some parts were still boring and the beginning was slow to me but it picked up and I enjoyed the ending. It was predictable I guessed what was gonna happen but it was still a solid read!

I don't know if I just really know this author and these characters by now or if it was actually just predictable, but I knew who the killer was pretty much once he stepped onto the scene and then the book was, dare I say, boring after that. Not that I didn't enjoy the case being solved, but I felt like jumping back in time to Grant County didn't actually help and was more just uncovering the past that should've stayed in the past. Or maybe I just didn't like that side of Jeffery. I still hate Lena. I'm excited to see where Will and Sarah go next. But this was definitely not my favorite story. Oh and the last scene in the office was so disturbing and disgusting, I just wanted to get it over with as fast as possible. It did fit the character beautifully though, so hats off to Karin for that chapter, because wow. I mean, I never want to read it again, but it was a great chapter.

A really dark and emotionally wrought combination of love story and murder mystery. Bringing the past and the present together, this is pretty graphic in places but brilliantly written. If you haven't previously read anything from this author then I recommend starting with Blindsighted.
