Quite a few similarities to another series I've read that came out before this one... but still interesting in its own way

ARC received from netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

Many of my GR friends enjoy this so I tried it as well. Generally I stay away from such dark topics and don't take pleasure reading of abusive relationships.

I could not decide whether this is awful than FSoG or not. In prior, Ana has choice whether to sign the contract or not and she chose to be abused where as in this, Stella doesn't have such choice and I can understand need for such circumstance. If given a choice, not single human being will show willingness to suffer as Acquisition. It is dark read, it is story of people who enjoy inflicting pain on others and get kicks out of it. It is truly horrible.

So, why give it 3 stars? Because writing is strong. It is compelling and unputdownable (don't roll your eyes, it is actually a word now). I really liked the writing style and finished the entire book in a single day. But I was disappointed not a single thing is answered in this book :(

Spoiler I mean I really wanted to know - what happened to Stella's mother? Why Stella was abused by her own mother? how her mother died? why Stella tried to commit suicide? And what about Sinclair? Why this Acquisition is necessary? Why he is participating if he doesn't like that a single bit? What is story of his mother, who entered the same competition and won, few years ago?

My head hurts thinking of these questions -

Luckily new installment of Counsellor (Magnate), was also available on netgalley and I got it so I simply jumping onto the next one.

Fake Alpha. He says how dark he is blah blah.. but everything he does is basic beta male wannabe stuff. It’s pretty much a story about a regular boy who has to do Alpha male shit for some sketchy underground BDSM shit and he hates every minute of it as much as she does.

She disrespects him all the time and he makes hollow promises. He whipped her once because he had to then cried after.

As a fan of dark stories, I’m not going to qualify this as such.

Rating: 2/5 stars

H rating: 1/5 - Sinclair

h rating: 2/5 - Stella

Drama: 4/5

Thoughts: Super uncool how he hurt her - I never felt that he was truly repentant and I was hopeful that she would find some way to steel that backbone with him.

Mini-Review:

4 Stars for Narration by Robyn Verne & Stephen Dexter
One of the better erotica audio narrations I've heard. I almost didn't laugh or roll my eyes during the sexy times. Almost. =D

3.5 Stars for Story & Characters

Trying to find a good dark romance can be tricky. Obviously dark stories will push the boundaries of reality and belief. It's hard to find one that can keep it real and sustain the painful atmosphere & turbulent passion. This story didn't give a whole lot away but it was a definitely layout for a dark tale and unwanted desire. I hope the trilogy ends well! I'm off to read the rest with my friends at NBC.
