Came to know about this book in one of my group. Two friends planned the BR and I hopped on the wagon.

It is a dark book about the tradition of Acquisition in rich southern families where the winners gets to rule over other families. So a lot of power and other things are at stake. A member from different families take part in this once in a decade and what follows is trials full of gore and debauchery.

One of the issue that I had this book was insta-lust that the couple felt for each other. I can understand the attraction at the boy's part but the girl is going through so much without even being told the why of whole tradition.

Book sort of ended on a cliffhanger, of course I had to read the next book.

From the very first sentence up to the last one, and all in between, nothing, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING is expected. Celia manages to completely surprise and amaze you until the very end.
Never did I expect or imagine anything that happened, but once I read each scene, each dialogue, I could see them, imagine them as they were happening.
This book provokes feelings, not always good ones. Got to tell you that I hated some characters. I hated and also loved their guts at the same time. Pretty crazy. To get the reader to have such mixed powerful feelings is no easy task. Well, these books provoke feelings and emotions that you can feel in your veins.

So I absolutely loved this book and can not wait for the next one!!! It is compared to Indebted by Pepper Winters and there are obvious similarities but I actually like this one better. (I know, I know) Stella is a strong woman and holds her head high. Sinclair is the bad boy you just wanna love and make good.

Hmm interesting, not the most original set up but there's definitely still a lot of mystery to be unwrapped. The twist at the end was easy to predict, I already had a feeling Stella's dad wasn't as great as she was so convicted of. I don't really understand the connection between Sinclair and Stella and must say I'm not particularly fond of either so far. My favorite person is probably the youngest Vinemont, Teddy, although he doesn't even play a large role haha. This just didn't wow me as much as the Bad Guy or Cloister series by the author. I wasn't convinced to read the 2nd book but I see reviews that the 2nd book is much more intriguing and flushed out so I'll give it a chance.

Thanks to NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Now, what do I like in these books? I like them to be well written (like any other book), I like when the plot is intricate and engaging, I like when the characters have depth and I like when the "interesting" scenes are... well, interesting. ;)
This book was a good mix of all of the above. Even if some of the plot twists were fairly obvious (but that is mainly because of me, I'm always trying to foresee what will happen next and is very rare that I still can get surprised by a book), I am still looking forward to see how the story develops and how it will all end.

Now, I cannot recommend this book to everyone. Only to people who, firstly like erotic books, secondly, are not easily impressed, and thirdly can make a clear distinction between fantasy and real world. It is definitely not for the faint of heart.

Bring on the next volumes.

the most fucked up shit i’ve ever read. i genuinely have no clue how i feel about it. it was sadistic and messed up. he fckin whipped her til she bled and would do it again. he never groveled. he will never deserve her. i don’t care what he does in the 2nd and 3rd book;

he. will. never. deserve. her.

i’m genuinely upset of how shitty this book is. i expected so much more from celia aaron.

This whole series was amazing.
Very unique story line. I had to
take a break between them
because they were so intense.
I did get frustrated with
the 3 main characters and
how they navigated through
conflict, but that's suppose
to happen in a good book or
movie. We become emotionally
invested and want to see
them succeed. This series definitely
has triggers. It is very violent.
I listened to the audio book
version and was not disappointed.
