I would have to award this the “Best End of Vacation Read.”
Brilliant.
Funny.
Wait, not just funny, but laugh out loud funny.
And yes I cried.
Every mom that has made it through the teen years and college choices should read this. ❤️
Every daughter that has survived their mom’s midlife questions should read this. ❤️

I love so much about this book (minus the excessive swearing and the rushed ending). There’s so much life in these characters that the conversations and inner dialogue felt real, like the author was a fly on the wall of an actual mother-daughter trip. But then, the number of hilarious one liners sprinkled throughout remind you that you’re being entertained.
I was looking for an easy read and this definitely hit that mark. I didn't want to have to think or feel a lot.
Funny, relatable, and smooth reading.
It's not ground breaking but it's enjoyable.

Smart, charming, and consistently funny women's fiction. One of the best books I've read all year.

I love Abbi Waxman's voice--snarky, funny but also thoughful. Jessica (mom) and Emily (daughter) alternately recount their experiences on an East Coast college tour. A cheating scandal, a workplace sexism conflict and love affairs complicate their already fraught relationship. This was funny and entertaining but with everything going on right now, it is harder to be too sympathetic to rich white people problems. However, the ending was satisfying and ran counter to the norm.
I absolutely ADORED The Bookish Life of Nina Hill (also by the witty and talented Abbi Waxman), and felt like it was the perfect ode to all things bookish! This book was very enjoyable and relatable for me, but not quite as amazing as Nina.
What I Absolutely Loved:
• The snarky sense of humor! Abbi Waxman creates such great dialogue and inner monologue that make you just LOL
• Mother/Daughter dual POV. I loved how, despite verbalizing how different they thought they were from each other, their thoughts would mirror each other’s. Something we wouldn’t know without that POV!
•So many strong women! Emily’s moral compass, Jessica’s commitment to doing what she needs while also raising her child solo, and many of Jessica’s female friends!
•Space for growth and redemption
What I didn’t love so much:
• The ending was a bit abrupt, I wanted MORE! There were just a few details that I wish had been addressed more thoroughly.
• The FBI threw me a bit (no spoilers!), but also I just kinda went with it. Because, really, I’m here for it!
SO, I Was Told It Would Get Easier is a funny and sweet coming of age story, an ode to strong independent women, and a nod to the complexities in mother/daughter relationships. Go get your copy!

Really enjoyed the mother-daughter dynamics in this one. It was kind of an anti-Gilmore Girls relationship. If you liked the show odds are you will enjoy this book too.
