Couldn't put it down. It scratched that itch for me that you get when you finish a great book and need another one that can hold a candle to it

A strong 4.5; this was such a stunning and raw tale of the fraught nature of caregiving and family relationships and the impact these stressors can have on identity.

This book is SO REAL it’s heart wrenching.

The story follows Maddie, a Ghanaian daughter in London. As the main caretaker of her father, who suffers from Parkinsons, she doesn't have a lot of time to go out and live her life. Her brother is traveling around and chasing is dreams while her mother lives in Ghana most of the time. When her mother comes back, she decides to move out and live her life. We follow her as she makes her first experiences. The story touches on relationships, friendships, people coming and going out of your life, grief, mental health, complicated family relationships, finding out who you are and finding your place in life, getting to know yourself and moving on.

I thought Maddies story was incredibly relatable. Maybe I was just the target audience but the amount of times I've said "been there" out loud while reading was actually ridiculous. Sometimes your first experiences suck and that's okay. Sometimes people are only in your life for a short period of time and that's okay. Sometimes we made decisions we regret and sometimes we'll make mistakes. But seeing her grow throughout the book was heartwarming to see.

The only "negative" thing I have to say is that it felt a little bit too long. I loved the themes and conversations that happen, but there were some moments that didn't really add anything to the story. Overall it just dragged a bit in some places.

But I think this was a great book that could be so comforting to people in their 20s that feel liked they're missing out on things. It's never too late and everything will be okay.
