This was fine. A bit lacking in conflict. And the premise didn't amount to much after the first few chapters. They all ended up follwing society's rules in the end, tbh. Characters all fell for each other immediately. The only thing that didn't make this completely dull was the many side plots. But it also made all of the storylines pretty underwhelming on their own.
Very sweet regency style romance. It isn't raunchy like some of the others on the market. It follows Diana Boyle, a widow from an unhappy marriage who is a little distanced from popular society. The introduction of a pamphlet that divulges the name and fortunes of eligible women (for those second sons who have no fortune of their own) leads her on a whirlwind journey that brings her out of her hermit hole and changes her life (for the better in the end).
It has modern feminist leanings, so probably not for people that are after a realistic look of the regency time but probably best for fans of Austen and Heyer who want something a little more progressive (without the steamy bits that other romance authors add).

Delightful writing but there was barely an ounce of consequence or conflict.

Very much a fluff piece. Easy to read and there are really no stakes so u can indulge in a silly love story without worrying too much about the details. The characters very much live in a bubble if there has ever been one (even more a la bridgerton than bridgerton) but alas that is what u sign in when u pick this book. The writing is alright, a bit to tell not show for me but that is ok for what it is. The romance is easy going and predictable but still cute and not toxic(!) which makes it enjoyable enough. My biggest critic is that the mid half of the book is quite boring, nothing mich happens and I wish there had been some more tension or something. This made book drag quite a bit for me tbh. Maybe these sweet sweet romances are just not for me after all.
