This book was just OK. I liked the premise of women taking control in the courtship game and living life they way they wanted instead of what was "proper." I enjoyed the focus on the friendship between the women. The main relationship was too instalove for me though and I never really saw why they fell for each other. I was much more interested in Lady Gordon's and Lady Regina's plotlines than the main couple.

This book reminds me in the best way possible of Georgette Heyer's style. This is a very easy to read Regency romance, with little funny moments rooted in social class/commentary and a kindhearted heroine. I enjoyed Diana and Regina's friendship and seeing Diana gain confidence in herself. The romance is sweet (kisses only - as befits the Regency style) and there are happy endings for many characters.
I wouldn't have minded a little more drama by seeing the ladies rewrite the rules with more flair (perhaps if Diana had enjoyed society's company more before becoming smitten), but this is a quick and comforting romance to pick up. The cover is also gorgeous with Regency fashion.

This was a book that I would have had difficultly completely without the support of the narrator. The audio really brings these characters to life. I’m also pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this novel. I selected it as I found it in Libby and I enjoyed the cover of the novel. This was very well written and a lovely take on women’s agency in the Regency era.
I loved loved loveeeee Lady Regina and Diana. I was intrigued about every twist and turn and was rooting for them all in the end. I loved these women and I was happy they got their happy ending.
I also love how much of a feminist (at least for their age) Maxwell Dean was. Yes he published that list but it was good in theory although wrong in practice. After he understood the impact of his publication, he truly set out to correct his mistake. The way he supported and treated Mildred’s situation I just—
Also please I need Ms Ballards story! The revenge plot for her friends. Very John Tucker must Die.
This is a wonderful narrative if you’re looking for a quick listen/read to get into British history/literature. This is also a lovely take on the Regency era being more than wives and property.
